Today, @jorijn and @ruud had a session where the handover of toot.community to the Fedihosting Foundation took place.

This foundation is a non-profit setup by @ruud and @stux which owns many fediverse platforms like mstdn.social, mastodon.world, lemmy.world and others.

For the users, nothing will change. Just keep tooting as you did before. Any questions can be addressed to this account, or mailed to support@toot.community.

There’s an ongoing spam problem on the Fediverse, and some of you might have received strange messages mentioning you and other people you don’t know.

We have limitations in place preventing them from signing up on toot.community, but there’s not a lot (right now) that can be done about remote accounts.

If you receive such a message, you can safely block the account and report it to us so we can suspend the spam account.

FYI-

Some sort of spam or malicious software with identical content but using a whole bunch of random account names. Looks like they all essentially came at the same time. I'm just letting you know in case they are targeting people on toot.community or the toot server. I'm reporting them and blocking them as I go through them all.

1. Go to Preferences > Privacy & Reach.

2. Find the option "Include posts in search results."

3. Toggle it on to make your posts searchable across the Fediverse.

That's it!

The system is currently indexing available posts. While this process is ongoing, you should be able to start exploring interesting content through search in just a matter of hours.

Good news, #tootcommunity members! The third beta of Mastodon v4.2.0 is bringing a much-anticipated feature: Search! 🎉

Here's the best part: You get to choose whether your posts are searchable across the Fediverse or not. The default setting is off, ensuring your privacy is respected.

Starting in Mastodon 4.2, full-text search will include posts from users who opt-in. This means your posts can be searchable not just on our instance but across other Mastodon instances as well.
