Just speculation but perhaps it would be easy for credit card criminals to steal money quickly? Steal a card. Tap to pay. Use the funds to buy Amazon gift card or whatever. Ditch the apple account. Rinse and repeat.

The schools where I live in Japan have already implemented this to some extent. The uniforms are not labeled by gender, and students are free to choose whichever one they feel comfortable wearing.

No obvious campaigns. This school year was the second to implement it AFAIK. perhaps not all schools. The one I am familiar with is the top public school based on academics.

Schools no longer use くん (kun) or ちゃん (chan) after students names, instead opting for さん (san) which is gender neutral. This is from elementary school.

Thanks for the update.

In the image viewer, quickly swiping left or right after opening the image zooms the image in to a very high level. Is that expected behaviour?

I played around a bit more to reproduce it. I might depend on the particular image. This time I could reproduce it by:

Double tapping to zoom in. Double tapping (or was it triple) to zoom out. Swipe from right to left.

The video didn’t seem so bad to be honest. It kind of reminded me of those old Mac vs PC ads. Just a bit of tongue in cheek.

Thanks for the big update. Just noticed that links to communities using the !xxx format are not loading, and actually opening the email client. So I guess they are somehow being interpreted as email addresses. The initial exclamation mark is not the same color as the link.

Dash cams are often exposed to extreme heat due to their placement. I wouldn’t trust a used one not to fail due to this. Hell, I’ve had brand new ones fail after about six years because of heat damage. My car navigation is suffering the same fate. It sucks when you don’t have covered parking.

Websites to download cracked software for Windows?

Yes, I have looked in the megathread. Specifically under the sections “All Purpose”, “Tools”, and “Software”… however, I didn’t find any general, all purpose websites for cracked software. Or at least, the megathread never had something in it that said “great website for cracked software”....

Back in the day I used nsanedown.com. Seems to be around still.

If you use the kids YouTube app then there are no ads. On tv, you can use the regular YouTube app to switch to your child’s account and then no more ads.

They are capable of that. But it is resource intensive (think battery) to have the app running in the background polling lemmy every x minutes.

That was cool to watch. Thanks for sharing!

Just in case you or others didn’t realise, WD-40 isn’t a true lubricant. It is actually a solvent. Although it works as a lubricant in many cases, the effects are short lived (and shouldn’t be used to lubricate some things like locks as the will gum up).

Oh cool. Thanks for the info!

I use Papago on iOS. It looks to be available on Android, too.

I’m well aware of how big a company NAVER is. Unfortunately where I live, their main app, Line, is basically a social requirement. It is what it is. The op asked for an alternative to google lens, not for a trustworthy company.

It is surprising to realise that this is not more common. In Japan, basically every home and apartment comes with rooftop antennas and coaxial connections in multiple rooms. No need to pay for cable TV (BS and CS) unless you want to get more channels.

My significant other mentioned this to me tonight. Any idea what it’s all about? And where are the photos!? /s

TIL In the Hot Coffee lawsuit against McDonalds, punitive damages were given due to McDonalds intentionally overheating coffee to save money on refills (www.poolelg.com)

During the trial it was revealed that McDonald’s knew that heating their coffee to this temperature would be dangerous, but they did it anyways because it would save them money. When you serve coffee that is too hot to drink, it will take much longer for a person to drink their coffee, which means that McDonald’s will not...

Although I have a compatible watch, I can’t update because my iPhone 8 cannot run iOS 17. Just get a message that your phone needs to be updated before your watch can. Which really means “You need to buy a new phone if you want to update your watch, even though your current phone runs fine”. Pretty shitty.

Yeah they definitely need $1,500 more than I do.
