I don't know why the state of is bound and determined to build a port on toxic, sensitive wetlands when there's plenty of toxic, hyper-low-density industrial land around Magna. Heck, the Church has an enormous empty plot right next to the UP Intermodal. Let that be your port.

My guess is that the comment about a new ethnicity you heard is related to them strongly discouraging inter-faith marriages (you can only get married in the church to fellow members in good standing). Also the culture completely obliterated their members' existing ethnicities over the last century, but that's a common American thing.

I can't help but compare the beaches where I last lived and where I live now. The only sound at my old beach was the roar of tires on the 4-lane highway that ran parallel to it. Now when I go to the beach the loudest sounds are honks from ducks, clicks from coots, and screeches of blackbirds.

I have some business travel coming up, and our booking system doesn't include train travel as an option. Needless to say, I am deflated. I was hoping to ride to my destination in style and comfort, but instead I am forced to complete this journey in a flying tin can, packed like sardines.

Also, I'm somewhat sure air travel has a higher carbon footprint than train travel. Hmmm... Waaaait... What if I used that angle to get them to spring for train tickets next time?

@Legit_Spaghetti Good luck trying to get a SoCal company to sponsor train travel to anywhere outside of SoCal. It still takes 11.5 hours to go by train between LA and Oakland and 17 hours to get to Albuquerque. And it's not like you can tell them you can work remotely while traveling because there's little cell service along the route.

@portlygent In Manchester Metrolink has to share ridership with a competent mainline rail network. The Calgary trams just have to share with buses. When I went to Manchester the mainline trains were clearly the best way to get around for many trips.

Normally I'm only searching online for technical information, and, yeah, there's a ton of spam, but the top results don't seem noticeably written by AI. Last night I was doing research for shopping, and holy shit basically every other page I clicked on was clearly written by AI. Loads of self-contradictions, that weird tone that they have, and taking forever to make a point (at least longer than it took to set off my BS-detectors).

It's been a while since I was in school, so it only just dawned on me that these campus protests are happening at the last minute possible. At my local university, classes ended more than a week ago. Hardly any students will be on campus after finals ended yesterday.
