Despite the similarities (opened 80s/90s, high-floor trams, grade-separated branches and street-running in city centre etc) I was surprised to find that Calgary's CTrain still wipes the floor with Metrolink in terms of ridership

Metrolink: 99 stations, 100km, 36 million annual riders

CTrain: 45 stations, 60km, 85 million riders!!

@portlygent In Manchester Metrolink has to share ridership with a competent mainline rail network. The Calgary trams just have to share with buses. When I went to Manchester the mainline trains were clearly the best way to get around for many trips.

In fact, the friend I was visiting was very confused why I was getting the tram into town when the train was so much closer and faster.
