I was at last Friday to this Thursday. I tested Thursday night and again today: both negative, and no symptoms.

I actually think it's cool from a systems perspective that someone tested positive (from a human perspective I'm sympathetic and I hope they get well soon :) ) and others didn't—it means the measures of masks and ventilation actually worked, and it wasn't just that no virus was around. It means people who need to take more precautions can participate.

I have never seen an organization where communication between devs was excessive. And I cannot imagine what that level would need to be at for it to be necessary to rein it in.

If you are solving for too much communication or collaboration I posit that you’re not only solving for the wrong thing, you’re actively going to make everything worse, the org, the product, the culture, every single thing.

@Patricia The thing I've seen is too much need for coordination between teams becasue of dependencies and that's usually by management based on deadlines rather than developers just communicating too much.

Unlike parents, managers aren't (usually) responsible for the lives of minors, thank goodness (sorry but this is always and forever a bad analogy on both sides managers are not parents in any way shape or form)

@skamille I agree it's a poor analogy but the similarity can still exist. Surely there's a better analogy out there that captures the issue without being overloaded but I can't think of one at the moment.

I decided to be for the week of 2024. I put little effort into this endeavor but I did think about it during each meal.

I'd like to share how it went, but first I'll note why I did this.

Since early 2020, I've been attempting to gradually reducing the animal suffering I cause (as much as I'm individually able to).

I focused one-by-one on small habit changes that had large impacts (e.g. I completely cut out chicken first). After ~2 years of this, I was .

@treyhunner I'm not vegan but am lactose intolerant so register as vegan at events and such to be safe. It's sad that I get exited when there are vegan options on par w/ the omnivore stuff (they actually had vegan cookies at saturday expo break!) For breakfast I always travel w/ some bars so I have backup options even when my hotel doesn't. There were a number of restaurants w/ good vegan options for dinners though. Really enjoyed Yuzu Kitchen and Bae Bae's Kitchen.

It's the last day of for me, spent in semi-isolatiion because of a scratchy throat and a COVID exposure.

I've tested non-positive two consecutive days though, so I have hope it's not the bad one. Still, not the way I want to end a PyCon.

Left from about 33 hrs ago. Had a scratchy throat this morning w/ a negative test and just now have a positive test.

I went out with various groups, unmasked, throughout the weekend. This was a risk I was willing to take. Still, I'm glad I was wearing a mask in the convention center around folks who did not choose to take that same risk.

I'm gonna go rest now.
