I told someone at that I'd send some cool links about the concept of glue work, but I unfortunately forgot to write it down as an action item and I've forgotten who! If this was you or you were there and remember, please let me know!

Since we have seen a few positive tests from and it’s very easy to get base-rate brain around this stuff, despite being asymptomatic I popped out to the drug store to get a few COVID tests just in case. Happy to report that I am testing negative at this point.

I decided to be for the week of 2024. I put little effort into this endeavor but I did think about it during each meal.

I'd like to share how it went, but first I'll note why I did this.

Since early 2020, I've been attempting to gradually reducing the animal suffering I cause (as much as I'm individually able to).

I focused one-by-one on small habit changes that had large impacts (e.g. I completely cut out chicken first). After ~2 years of this, I was .

Probably long overdue, but after my (great) experience at I decided to become a PSF member today. If you value something, support it. The default fee is $99 USD, but they recently created a sliding scale to make it more accessible across the world.

Flask-Mail 0.10 released, after a 10 year hiatus! Thanks to @wlach for picking it up at the sprint. This is part of my Pallets-Eco initiative to get old popular extensions maintained again. It's been unarchived and refreshed. I went through and closed out a lot of the issue backlog. We'll have to figure out what a 1.0 release will look like. https://github.com/pallets-eco/flask-mail/releases/tag/0.10.0

@davidism That felt like a good use of time! Thanks again for all the guidance and help (not to mention all the work you did to get this over the line). Great illustration of why events like are so valuable to the community.

For anyone still at - I have no idea how much longer they'll be there but there are quite a few rapid tests and KN95s in a box in the PyCon office (306/307) if you need them before you head out. There are also a bunch of lost and found items including a keyboard and multiple chargers. (And my water bottle, yay!)

  • Daniel Wu found the culprit for windows tests not passing for Jinja.
  • Click: TylerLendon fixed windows color issue, @j7an worked on something else
  • @kevin continued works on Jinja grammar
  • @grohe43 continued bringing flask-rq up-to-date including solving CI issues stemming from rq itself.
  • I worked on updating Flask-Principal docs including flask-login and flask-wtf demos. Daniel Wu enhanced permission internals after consultation 👌

For my talk last week, I ended up rendering images of my code snippets for the slides.

I wrote up my process for generating those snippets, with the ability to regenerate all of them with different formatting options at any time:

One of the things I respect most about how organizers handled the masking policy is that they A) made a clear policy, and B) stuck to that policy.

Many people made their decision about whether to attend - both attendees and non-attendees - based on that policy.

I believe they were also collecting air quality data throughout the conference, in order to inform next year's policy. I have tremendous respect for that approach.

Hey folks, since I saw the accepted workshop is sold out and I happen to have a rejected PyO3 workshop (which was accepted in and ) how about we have a reject-PyO3 workshop at the hall way track tomorrow. If there’s enough likes I will do it.

If for no other reason*, I support a mask requirement at #PyConUS because the kind of person who doesn’t attend because they’re required to mask is the kind of person who I don’t want to hang out with anyway.

(* and there are lots of other good reasons too)

I’ll also just add — look, I’m someone who has decided to accept a fair amount of COVID risk. I’m living a life now pretty similar to pre-2020. I don’t mask much in daily life. I’d feel comfortable at a conference without a mask. I’m a bit hard of hearing and mildly face-blind so masks actually are a bit tricky for me. But I’m still all for a mask mandate because it’s not just about me! It’s about inclusivity and being welcoming and JFC wearing a mask is easy so why not?

At the same time that bad-faith "pollers" are asking about masking, the attendee survey asks about it as well. But that survey only goes to attendees, meaning people put off by the requirement this year will not be asked. How do we get a complete view of the entire population of potential attendees?

I've tested non-positive two consecutive days though, so I have hope it's not the bad one. Still, not the way I want to end a PyCon.

But after #pyconus last week, I'm convinced…it's even better now.
