@davidrevoy @craigmaloney This is always sad. Take your time. But also keep in mind that he seemed to have loved being part of the community, and he is loved by the community a lot in return. I'm sure your work has given his life a lot of worth. He will be remembered, and he will be loved. If you feel so, maybe add a special tribute to him in the next pnc. Take your time to properly grieve for your friend.

    @robertdalton Did you know you can use KDE Connect on Linux, Mac OS, Windows and Android to connect ANY of said devices between each other? KDE Connect can connect your Phone and your Laptop, your Laptop and your Desktop, your Phone and your Tablet ... And using headless you can even connect to any sort of linux home server you might have up.

    @SheDrivesMobility @stern Aus Interesse: Hast du den Artikel gelesen? So, wie ich das interpretieren würde, ist das nämlich durchaus valide. Da ginge es dann nicht um "was wollen die uns als nächstes verbieten?", sondern um das Problem, dass in vielen Themen gerade in der Öffentlichkeit gesellschaftlich die Polarisation anstatt den Kompromiss, den Streit statt der Diskussion gefördert wird (manche politische Akteure bauen stark darauf auf). Kann aber auch Unfug sein ...

    @davidrevoy ... And surely there will be artists who make art by using ML technology. But this does not change that art is more than just the final product.

    For example why do I pay for Pepper and Carrot? After all there is already so much stuff readily available online. Well — for one thing because my (by Friday) 5 yo child is a big fan, so I asked him if he wanted to support the comic. But it is also because I care about the process behind it — not the result.

    @shved @kde @kde Sorry, but this is a pretty opinionates post about a simple feature. Yes, KDE has Telemetry options. But these are entirely opt in, so unless you explicitely choose to send data you will never send data. The data that is being sent is fully transparent, as we have access to the source code. I belief it is mostly used for interface decisions (such as what window sizes are people using). So I cannot see the point.

    Tatsächlich hat zum einen Covid den Prozess extrem verlangsamt, zum anderen dauert im Filmbereich ALLES immer jahrelang, egal ob Skriptentwicklung, Finanzierung oder Produktion. Wer schon mal Making-Ofs gesehen hat von so ziemlich allem, was Disney und Pixar in den letzen 20 Jahren gemacht hat, weiß, dass auch bei hundertprozentigen Vollprofis von der ersten Idee bis zur Premiere eines Films locker ein Jahrzehnt vergehen kann.

    Da belaufen die "Belohnungen" effektiv auf ne Onlineerwähnung, ne Erwähnung in den Credits, Badges, verschiedene Formen des Endproduktes und Zubehöres. Ich glaube, solange es eine Community gibt, die hinter einem Projekt steht, bedarf es keiner ausgefallenen Dankesschmankerln damit Crowdfunding was bringt. Weil die Belohnung in diesem Fall eigentlich doch das damit ermöglichte Projekt ist.

    There are a lot of blind people on here, who use screen reader software to tell them what is on the screen. To help screen reader users, it's a good idea to use emoji rather than old-style smileys.

    For example 😄 will be read out loud as "smile" because that's its alt text. However, :D will be read out loud as "colon D".

    (Some old-style smileys do work with screen readers, but most don't. Emoji are safer.)

    @feditips @weirdwriter Emojis do not have an alt text. They do have a unicode description which is more descriptive of the appearance than of the conveyed meaning. For example the emoji you have given is described as "smiling face with open mouth and smiling eyes". Any other meaning will need to be specially mapped by the screen reader. And it is equally dangerous to assume screen readers will map your emojis as it is to assume they'd map something like :D. ...

    Thus I'd say you should only use emojis in a way such that the text does not rely on them to convey meaning. Emojis should be something you can filter out without loosing meaning.

    It might be that your particular screen reader handles particular emojis well - but not all will do so, and there are over 3000 different Emojis in Unicode.

    @derpostillon Lecker! Habe mir ja eigentlich aus Gesundheits- und Klimaschutzgründen vorgenommen, mehr Huhn zu essen, aber der Geschmack war nie so meins. Das ist wirklich ein hervorragender Durchbruch für Menschen, die sich eigentlich bewusst ernähren wollen, aber dennoch nicht auf den Geschmack von Tofu verzichten wollen! 🧡
