Urgent job: potentially looking for someone who can translate ~200 words of Steam page copy from English into , before 15:00 CEST on Thursday 9th May. Paid at a good rate, obviously.

(We will know by tomorrow if we need this for certain!)

Boosts appreciated! 💚

@dbaplanb thank you!

arthur,

@villainousfriend I self-publish tabletop games in English and have translated one of my games into Chinese. I am happy to have a look and translate it for you.

Inspired by @ehyde, I also want to rec some fonts for !

Klaus-Peter Schäffel has a collection of free historical(ly-inspired) fonts here: https://www.schäffel.ch/fonts.html

There are four collections:

  1. Palaographic, based on handwriting from the 2nd-18th centuries;
  2. Typographic, from printed texts from the 15th-18th centuries;
  3. Interpretations, based on KPS's own handwriting in various historical styles;
  4. Inventions, freely created by KPS.

Most of the fonts have ligatures and alternate glyphs.

Example of the font 1483 Koberger on a yellow background. The font is based on the Koberger Bible, printed in Nürnburg in 1483.
Example of the font 1999 Cancellaresca on a green background. The font is a humanist cursive in the style of the 16th century.
Example of the font 1999 Stylus on a lavender background. The font is a handwritten style, as if with a ballpoint pen.

folk, has anyone got a recommendation for books/articles about the ? I’m back reading the Waley translation and greatly enjoying it, but I’d love some more context, both on the history and on the commentaries that have informed the translation choices.

msquebanh,

@villainousfriend NP. I hope you are able to obtain the info you're seeking 👍

@villainousfriend I don’t know much about it other than it’s a collection of poems from the Western Zhou Dynasty and that it’s held in high esteem by Confucianists who idealized the western zhou period. Confucius praised Shijing for 思無邪, meaning that it’s pure, sincere, and unclouded by pretentiousness.

The village of Mibeizhuang produces 90% of China’s funeral supplies, but “civilized memorial” regulations and trends towards more eco-friendly funeral ceremonies are leading to a downturn in the village’s economy.

… okay I managed not to say this in the OP but, real-life Yi City? I hope Mibeizhuang’s fate is kinder.

Infinite flow/timeloop conversation has reminded me of Kill That Groundhog by Fu Qiang (translated by Andy Dudak), which iirc was on the Hugos shortlist last year: https://clarkesworldmagazine.com/fu_12_23/

I really enjoyed it! It’s definitely more on the concept-based end of the scifi spectrum, rather than the character-based, but imo it really pulls it off. Recommended.

(Also, no groundhogs are harmed.)

Hey, Reactor has an article about unlimited flow novels! https://reactormag.com/unlimited-flow-beyond-the-horizons-of-genre/ (and it mentions Global Examination and Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint).

The author is 墨客hunxi and it is the hunxi of hunxi-guilai linguistic meta fame, @aegtx confirms. Good on them getting bylines!

There’s a manhua stand at Fantasy Basel and they had vol 1 in German! Has anyone read that yet? I tried reading the fan translation a while ago and couldn’t get through it, so I’m happy to find a different version. 🧜‍♂️
