Recommending I Can Do It! (Now on the correct visibility setting)
I really enjoyed it this e-sports danmei novel (as you can probably see by how I finished 134 chapters, 11 extras in about five days ahaha)
Short summary of the novel
This is an e-sports story, with the romance happening between this streamer, Soft, who excels in flaming every single player in the League of Legends e-sports circuit (and every player he plays with) except for his idol, Road, with his idol, Road. Soft is an extremely talented player who basically spends all his time playing LoL, watching LoL and streaming for money. Due to circumstances, he joined Road's e-sports team as the new mid-laner (a position in LoL).
Thoughts
It's very fluffy, very sweet. The ML totally dotes on the MC, and does it so obviously too. The MC is basically a hissy cat who will claw and scratch everyone except ML (and ML's family...). Their poor manager has his hands full trying to manage this tea (him praying every night probably, "please, Soft, don't reply to trolls and don't flame back, please"). 10/10 would recommend if you are in the mood for fluff, comedy, sweet/healing, soft. Would probably not recommend if you do not game AND do not know league of legends at all. If you game but don't watch or play LoL, I think you'll be fine (lots of footnotes)
Some caveats
The KR-CN e-sports rivalry might get uncomfortable to read (some insults/comments are on accent, for example); also expect some of the usual beauty standards stuff in webnovels in description of how people look; main character is slightly less than 18 at the start of the novel (but the relationship doesn't start till he's 18)

@bookstodon My #review of Stars of Chaos (Sha Po Lang) Vol. 2 by priest is now live! This volume builds on both the relationship of the leads and the worldbuilding as a whole, making for a VERY entertaining read.
There’s a manhua stand at Fantasy Basel and they had #DesharowMerman vol 1 in German! Has anyone read that yet? I tried reading the fan translation a while ago and couldn’t get through it, so I’m happy to find a different version. 🧜♂️
@bookstodon My #review of Stars of Chaos/Sha Po Lang Vol. 1 by priest has gone live! Enjoyed this more than MDZS, I have to say, mostly because of the worldbuilding and the plot.
Have just begun watching “The Spirealm” with Huang Junjie and Xia Zhiguang 🌸 It’s not my usual genre, but since it is perhaps a Chinese BL or danmei, it is rather remarkable that is is airing at all. The idea is that people are drawn into a computer game where they can die in the real world if they die in the game. There is suspense and a delicate chemistry between the leads.
#introduction
hello there, i'm antares! i like linguistics (can speak english, russian and spanish), music (i play guitar) and fixing things (mainly finding ways to use old tech and sewing). i've never been a big poster, but spent a lot of good time lurking in #tolkien and #danmei fandoms
things that i'm also into: #solarpunk#foss#astronomy#botany#hiking#theatre
any pronouns are fine, but in english i prefer they/them
Have just begun reading volume 2 of “Guardian” 🌸 The book arrived yesterday so I want to read it right away. I finished reading the prologue of “Stars of Chaos” so think it makes sense to read “Guardian” now before the actual plot begins. Besides volume 3 of “Stars of Chaos” might be out by the time I finish this book.
While I’m waiting for volume 2 of “Guardian” to arrive next week, I’ve decided to begin reading “Stars of Chaos” 🌸 If I understand correctly, the first volume has a lot of world building so it will probably take a while to digest.
The plan is therefore to begin it now, then switch to “Guardian” when it arrives and then return to “Stars of Chaos”.
#WritersCoffeeClub Apr 1. What’s your favourite easter egg in your own work and/or another work of fiction?
A tricky one for me to answer at the moment. Because my real favourite easter egg is placed in Vol.1, but what it’s hinting at is to be revealed in Vol.3, the ongoing volume.
I can only say, I made this easter egg because I had a strong urge to shipost then.
Sorry not sorry. :NekoShrug:
#WritersCoffeeClub Apr 17. What genre(s) would you be terrible at writing?
PWP :blobcatthisisfine:
I haven’t attempted to write in many genres other than #danmei so I wouldn’t know if I’d be good or bad. But I once tried to write an erotica and failed. So I know this one for sure.
Just finished reading first volume of “Thousand Autumns” by Meng Xi Shi 🌸 It is an information dense first book in a series that mixes the martial world with actual Chinese history. The main couple have met & there’s lots of foreshadowing + one-sided banter but no romance.
The characterization of Shen Qiao & Yan Wushi gives them both distinct personalities that spark off each other. Plot & character development are intricately woven together.
Just read chapter 17 of volume 1 in “Thousand Autumns” 🌸 The relationships between characters are deepening. Chen Gong’s betrayal of Shen Qiao was resonant, because it was a logical consequence of who he was but it is still sad that he made that decision.
The companionship between Shen Qiao and Yan Wushi is fun to follow. They are very different people which makes for a good, thematic dynamic. Well written!
I'm doing the book bingo challenge and as it seems I'm doing way better this year than the last, I decided to do the bingo again--but this time as a danmei edition!
So far on my list I have the following books/series:
MDZS
SVSSS
TGCF
stars of chaos
2ha
silent reading
mr. melancholy wants to live a peaceful life
(I also have the new fan translation of Guardian but I'm not sure I can read it.)
I mean, I think that list has enough volumes to fill the bingo card but just in case I end up using the whole novel as one bingo slot... GIMME MORE!
Just finished reading the third volume of “The Husky and his White Cat Shizun” 🌸 Although this volume began with a very unsettling scene, most of it was a very touching journey where Mo Ran goes to get Chu Wanning’s souls. It was nice to see there relationship progressing.
Will now continue with volume 4 and hope for more sugar than bitterness in the future …
@geraineon So after reading a Doris Lessing book about cats, I’ve returned to the #Danmei genre. I’ve chosen one of your recommendations, namely “Thousand Autumns”.
After the Husky books, I thought it might make a nice change to read a series with a more historical focus. I’ve only read a few chapters but it is already possible to tell that they are well written and that the characterization looks to be round.
Thanks for helping me decide which series to begin reading…
