Wind Breaker is definitely good. Not quite great, like Dungeon Meshi, but very watchable.

The MC, Haruka Sakura, is a parody on the “fight to become top delinquent” type of main character. His strange appearance with bi-colored hair, and odd eye colors, set him apart as the freak that he is. He even has 2 girls names.

The local delinquent gang is loved by the local merchants, and when they’re not fighting other roving gangs, they do positive social work.

The highlight so far has been the gorgeously animated fight in episode 5.

zabadoh,

It just goes to prove that if you have enough money, you can always find some woman to jump on your withered dick.

zabadoh,

On the other hand, her faith in Mortal Kombat appears to be genuinely sincere.

zabadoh,

The labeling on any kind of product doesn’t represent where it came from.

China makes all kinds of shtuff with English and a zillion other languages, and localizes them for export.

I’m sure American arms manufacturers do the same.

Only significant movement by Girls Band Cry, which they did have a funny episode, although not as devastating as Jellyfish this week so I hear.

Also, also:

Next season’s Summer 2024 Preview charts:

MAL+Anilist

JP Twitter

There’s significant divergence between anticipated shows on MAL+Anilist and JP Twitter:

After Oshi No Ko S2 and Deer Friend Nokotan scoring high on both charts, the rest of the top 5 on each:

MAL+Anilist: Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian, Suicide Squad Isekai, Tower Of God S2

JP Twitter: Magical Girl and Evil Lieutenant Used To Be Enemies, Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest, Twilight Out Of Focus

Neither Tower Of God S2 and Suicide Squad Isekai even show up on the JP Twitter chart top 30.

Which is not that surprising I guess, because of no large Japanese fanbase for either source material.

Where do y'all recommend looking to find no-disc game patches in general?

Mostly asking because I’ve never used these before due to never needing to. That, and I have a few old disc based PC games that I’d love to be able to straight up boot without the game disc. These are games I could just pirate, but I figure I already own them in disc, so I’d rather see if there are any reputable places...

zabadoh,

Those no-disc patches can be sketchy and infected, so watch out!

My preferred way to play games without CDs was virtual disc emulators, so you can store a copy of your game disc on your hard drive, and virtually pop that game’s CD image into the virtual drive in when you want to play that specific game.

One good trick with these, is that you don’t even need a full copy of the disc: There was some trick to creating a very small disc image that just has enough information to get past the game’s copy protection, but it’s been well over 2 decades since I did any of that, so you’ll have to do your own research.

zabadoh,

The full disc images worked well, and hard drive space is so cheap these days, that I’d worry about getting the virtual drive emulator working first.

WinCDEmu is FOSS, so you might look into that first.

Back in the day, I bought Alcohol 120, and it worked great.

The mini-CD image trick (optional): forum.daemon-tools.cc/forum/…/4900-

zabadoh,

Performance art and stagecraft more than useful information.

But fun to watch nonetheless!

zabadoh,

Hello, it’s just the middle of the evening on the West Coast of the USA.

Internet forums, TV shows, movies, and videogames are fun, but they’re not a good substitute for talking to real live humans, especially your peers of the similar age and background.

You gotta put yourself in some place where you meet the same people consistently to become friends with them.

It takes on average 8 encounters with conversations to become someone’s friend, so you have to be consistently there over a period of time.

Go volunteer anywhere, get a menial job anywhere. Especially if it’s something you think you’ll hate, you’ll learn something and at least you’ll be interacting with people.

You’re in college, and you should be thinking about your future. Summer is no time to waste, and you should be (or should have been) looking into internships in some career field that you’re interested in. Again, don’t turn your nose up at a company or type of work that isn’t the latest and greatest, because you’ll learn something by doing anything. If you have free housing with supportive parents, you can even ask a company to intern for free just to get in to some experience in a field that you’re interested in. Or maybe not interested in. For example, you might like computers, but you might find work on a farm or veterinary clinic and find out that you like animals even more.

When you do go back to school:

Does your college have a cafeteria on campus? Spend some time at the same one, every class day, for lunch and/or dinner, (preferably both) and join the same group at the same table. You’ll probably recognize people in some classes you’re taking, and you can use that as an “in” to get conversations started. Or even just overhearing people talking about something you’re interested in, in which case, just join in.

zabadoh,

Yes, and no.

Yes, I can see human animators getting replaced from animating “easy” motions, and they could be put to work animating more difficult motions, improving the quality of animation where the budget remains level with current budget levels.

But, what is more likely is animation direction suffering, because motions being restricted to what the AI is good at, i.e. we’ll have less variety of motions.

Also, as we saw in the video, non-human creature motions will have to be drawn by hand because there aren’t any models to train the AI for each unique creature design. This will make them non-human creatures more expensive to animate, and therefore even rarer. Consider the epidemic of bad CG dragons in isekai shows now.

And/or there will be less staff hired to produce the same amount of shows, because maybe the AI improves their productivity.

Less staff hired, means less junior animators in training to become senior animators, and the industry will eventually find itself in a senior talent deficit again.

I can see a lot of colorists losing their jobs, too. The one thing that the AI did do flawlessly in the video was color sketches from the one colored frame.

It's Pride Month! What are your favorite examples of LGBTQIA+ representation in pre-2000s comics and animation? (lemmy.world)

Lord Fanny from Grant Morrison’s The Invisibles

https://ani.social/pictrs/image/eb084c62-ee22-4692-b2bc-53e11f37955f.webp

The first openly gay drag queen superhero that I’m aware of.

Morrison’s writing in this early stage of his career was raw and emotional.

“Tell us what you really think” style that left it all on the page.

Invisibles is great, so are his runs on Animal Man, and most famously Doom Patrol are from this era.

But Invisibles is his most personal work. Morrison practically inserts his self in the comic pages with his lookalike stand in King Mob.

It is said that he dressed up as Lord Fanny to go clubbing.

Other Invisibles characters are said to be other facets of Morrison himself, or him at various stages in his life, like young punk teenager Jack Frost for example.

Hey @MESSENGER_24@lemmy.world

You wouldn’t happen to have all your tracks on a YT playlist or equivalent would you?

zabadoh,

Some runs there wouldn’t be enough room, so one of these would tow a single level car behind them.

zabadoh,

It might work if the billionaire class would act in enlightened self interest, like the millionaire Rockefellers, Roosevelts, and Carnegies of the 20s and 30s (arguably, and arguably not), but this latest crop of ultra-rich just seem to think “I got mine, now fuck you, I’m going to live in my luxury missile silo bunker when the apocalypse comes”.

zabadoh,

It does look pretty wild and out there! High production value slapstick comedy? This ought to be interesting…

zabadoh, (edited )

A couple of scenes from the preview are likely parodies of the scene in Nausicaa where she walks on the golden “field” of Ohmu… tentacles?

Of course, I can’t find a clip of it for reference…

edit2: Found one! vimeo.com/474663789

zabadoh,

You might as well for posterity’s sake, rather than keeping it all to yourself 😉

zabadoh,

The title for this post ends with “Week 22” which is fairly meaningless… I think the count started last season, but didn’t get reset to “Week 1” at the start of the current season, some 9 weeks ago.

Another thing on the list for improvements?
