So glad this movie is doing well. I hope this puts an exclamation point on the sentiment that a global audience wants to see Japanese Godzilla films that Toho will keep in mind. This article states how much more Minus One is grossing over Shin Godzilla, but the Shin Godzilla screenings (in my region anyway) were so limited that this is anything but a surprise.

Minus One is great. I encourage everyone to see it. I'm hoping to catch it again while it's still on the big screen. Goji fans rejoice!

[Thread] Recommend me devastatingly sad songs? Please?

So I’ve always noticed when I’m as down as I can get, I find comfort is music that most people find super depressing all the way to unbearably depressing. Like slit-your-wrists depressing. Songs you’d expect to find someone hanging from a noose in their home on repeat to. These kinds of songs bring comfort because they...

Wanting to keep my post spoiler free.

I thought it was great. I like every Godzilla movie though. Overall it was a solid entry into the franchise. Closer to the top of the heap than the bottom. Curious to see the varied reactions from the rest of the fandom, since everyone inevitably has different takes depending on what they like out of a Godzilla movie.

I encourage everyone to go see it, mostly to give Toho your money so they know the international market remains eager for more of the big G.

Not as good as Shin, but I consider Shin the 2nd best in the franchise, only after '54. Minus One is solid though. If you're at all interested you should check it out.

It's a high quality film. I prefer Shin, but Shin is my 2nd favorite in the franchise. Depending on taste I'm sure some people will prefer Minus One over Shin. It's all up to what you like.

Ultimately though, they did a great job on Minus One. If you're a Godzilla fan you're going to love it.

Sure thing. Report back with your own take. Eager to get others' opinion on it too!

I think these all merit a mention given what you're looking for. Whether or not they hit square is up to you.

The Fall (2006) - A bit flat in the story department, but this was clearly a film focused on being a feast for the eyes. It succeeds in that handily.

The Great Yokai War - Ever wondered what would happen if Takashi Miike directed The Never Ending Story? This is something like that.

Tuvalu - Almost like if you smashed the aesthetics of Jean Pierre Jeunet and Guy Maddin together. The dialogue is hyper-minimal, but it you can get on board with the overall approach this film is a gem.

Tristania - World of Glass, and if you like that check out the two albums before it as well.

Just tried using Google Earth to check for any Taco Bell locations to confirm this. How convenient that it wouldn't let me look anywhere close to Mars. They're keeping something from us!

Kinda neat, but pretty janky. Can't get it to open up in street view.

Midwesterner here. Admittedly, some of these can be... interesting (to be interpreted as passive aggressively as possible). Some can be excellent though. We have a pistachio salad in the family that is a go to, and if I don't control myself I could eat a whole batch.

Ingredients include: whipped cream/Cool Whip, pistachio pudding, mini marshmallows, diced pineapple, and of course chopped pistachios. It's obviously more of a dessert/sweet side dish type of thing. Pistachios alone, though delicious, wouldn't fill the same role.

Yes, Captain. The contagion seems to be spreading rapidly. Almost as if people are finding the combination appetizing, and are perpetuating the phenomenon by way of potlucks and recipe sharing.

I saw one fly across a road once. It broke my brain until I recognized what it was. Initially I thought it was a leather satchel being blown by the wind like a plastic bag in an updraft. Not exactly a graceful display.

I've been a fan of the Godzilla franchise for a long time. I'm absolutely stunned to learn that the films don't hold up to scientific scrutiny. I feel lied to, and betrayed. How could they do this‽ Everything is ruined.

This might actually be the most confused I've ever been.

Not new, no. I first heard of these guys around 2007 or '08. Metal archives says they formed in 2002. Good stuff.

Some well documented things that give pause about the manufacturer (check the comments section on the linked article or the Bad Gear episode on the Pro for a quick catch up if unfamiliar), but the sound of the Uno synth has always been good. Beyond that, UI and build quality on the previous versions made them non-starters to me. As long as the build has improved it looks like they've addressed the UI issues pretty well. Nice feature set, dual filters are always welcome, and the vids I've seen on this sound good as expected.

I'm sure if you're into what this synth seems to offer you will have a lot of fun with it. I'd personally go with something else if I was in the market for this kind of thing right now. Plenty of worthy contenders, though they'll have different assemblages of features than this does.

My impression of squabbles after a while was more "feigned whimsy reddit". The people who loved the quirky snu aspect of reddit found their way there. "Oh look, he's wearing a box on his head with a face hole cut out! Ha ha!" - "He's holding a plate with a piece of birthday cake in one hand and a saxophone in the other! What a whacky character!!!" - "He's piloting a rocket ship! Space is amAAAAAzing!!!"

The dev seemed like he was impressively dedicated to improving the platform, but I didn't jive with what I perceived at the time to be the emerging culture there. Nothing offensive about it, but that's not at all what I'm looking for really. I haven't been there any type of regularly for a couple weeks, so not sure if that's still a thing.

Also, I don't pay strict attention to what instances they're coming from, but I've blocked many communities throughout the fediverse that spam memes like they're running out of time or something. I don't think squabbles exclusively lays claim to that type of behavior.

Just my opinion.

I'm in a ttrpg group that plays Pathfinder about once a month. We had a session yesterday, and with where we left off I've got some cool ideas for some synth scoring for the next session. I haven't written for the group before, though I've been invited to by the GM since he knows I'm into synths and he usually uses dungeon synth as the background music during play sessions. Planning to get to work on this later today, and I've got probably 5 weeks to get things wrapped. Our sessions usually run 4+ hours, and I think aiming for that run time is overly ambitious, but I'm thinking maybe roughly an hour is the goal. We'll see how easily things progress since what I have in mind is stylistically quite different from what I typically do. Maybe things will flow gang busters and I'll get a lot more out than what I'm anticipating. Hoping this will be a cool surprise for the group.

I'll give that a firm maybe, depending on how it turns out. :) If it's not a disaster I may throw it out for people to hear.

Our campaign is in a wasteland desert right now and the party inquisitor is being driven mad through hearing voices of some enslaved spirits, so the tone may not be transferrable to everybody's table (lol), but if that sounds interesting I've got some weird ideas I'd like to see if I can get to translate to that vibe.

Likewise, this goes against how I wish for my after life process to go. Just to note, the article does say that cemeteries already engaging in these practices are not barred from continuing them as the environmental impact studies occur over the next two years. Should anything unfortunate happen in that time there are still places that can cater to your wishes.

After seeing this though, I will absolutely be writing my state rep and senator about this issue, and I encourage you and any others interested to do the same. There's nothing out of line with the desire for a green burial. Let the environmental impact studies occur, and if it's deemed that regulations are needed that's not a bad thing necessarily, as long as it doesn't disallow the practice all together. I do feel a lot concern over this is nonsense stemming from people not understanding something that's not been the entrenched custom in the modern zeitgeist. More or less baseless hand wringing.
