I opened this post in News last night but had to put my phone down. Now I went to comment and it has been removed, so I’m reposting to Politics. Apologies if someone already did so. Haven’t had a chance to get on Lemmy until now.
It really is hard to put Republican assholery on a scale of “worst in our lifetime”.
GWB got us in multiple multiple decade long wars.
Mitt Romney or Dick Cheney might have turned the great recession into another great depression.
Trump nearly got us into another full blown recession, got rid of Roe V Wade, tried to overturn Democracy, and nearly got us into a war with Iran.
Trump this time around will try to overturn Democracy again, might bring back the full blown recession we almost had, will let Russia steamroll Ukraine, will support Israel harder than any US president, etc. etc.
Fuck it pisses me off. The oil embargoes in the 70s were the pants on fire moments we should have put an ungodly amount of R&D into nuclear, fusion, solar, wind, and batteries. And built Metro lines.
From reading the article it definitely seems like there was some attitude being given to the judge.
From the article…
“If you don’t like my ruling, you don’t say ‘jeez,’ and you don’t say ‘strike it,’ because I’m the only one who can strike testimony in court,” Merchan said.
That seems like someone else besides the Director yelling “Cut!”, when making a movie.
God I hate sites like the dailybeast. The qoute in the article is “And when I was vice president, things were kind of bad during the pandemic”. However, Biden was VP during a pandemic - Swine Flu Pandemic. I wouldn’t be surprised if he made a gaffe like this, but their own article doesn’t support the headline.
So, part of how Biden funded his massive programs on climate change and domestic manufacturing was through a massive corporate tax increase. For one look at the impact, you can check out Amazon's taxes paid per quarter which show a huge spike at the beginning of 2023 when the new taxes went into effect.
Corporations actually should be happy about that tax policy, since building a working economy is also to their benefit even if they have to pay some taxes to make it happen (as opposed to just putting 100% of the burden on the working class until everything at all levels collapses, which is pretty much the point we've reached as of today in this country). But painting Biden as a solely corporate-focused candidate of a piece with the norm for US politicians is, like a lot of emotionally-resonant criticisms of him that get repeated multiple times a day here for some perfectly organic reason, pretty much the opposite of the truth.
Way too unsubtle. Everyone's just gonna laugh and downvote you. You gotta pretend you really want him to get elected, but you're just despairingly concerned because he's old and flailing, and can't possibly hold a candle to Trump and anyway he threw away and betrayed all his voters when he personally bombed Gaza, and anyway you wish we could have Jill Stein and you'll probably vote for her, not because you want Trump to win, but because it's the only real way we'll ever see some progress in this country.
