I'm doing Domaystic (as you know). Have several exchanges I've signed up for. They don't require too many words, so I don't feel overwhelmed. However, I do have one that is a minimum of 1k and I've already reached 5k for it. Whoops!

Thank you for the reminder I should binge some QI again.

As We Reach the End of April 2024

Finished that shipping week event with 2 late pieces but getting 5/7 prompts (with 2 of them being written onehots) is honestly way more than I expected of myself. Especially since my usual pace of finishing a 1k word oneshot is 3 months. This likely means said texts are a big mess but maybe people will be distracted enough by...

I'm barely keeping up with things I want to be doing! However, I have signed up for a few more exchanges though, because those have managed to get my creativity flowing where my projects are... not. I still want to be doing them, but perhaps I needed a break? I'm hoping to at least get a few chapters of my ongoing big series done so I can start updating again on its anniversary in June. That would be nice.

I've gotten some comments on much older pieces in a smaller fandom though, which were a pleasant surprise! Nice to know people are still reading some of those drabbles/double drabbles I did when I was getting back into writing fanfic.

Still obsessed with the Hellaverse. The rest of HB season 2 is coming out this year and I'm already dying.

I guess I did. Stupid card games.

Yeah, that's the weird thing. I haven't posted a Bandori fic in a bit, so it's been a surprise that someone has started going through them, giving kudos on a lot, and occasionally giving a few words on the ones they like most. And it isn't sticking to a pairing/character. So they just like my writing all the way around~ <3

Considering it is actually addressing the miscommunication issues of the main pairing and not leaving it as something for the end of the four season plan gives me hope in ways a lot of series don't when it comes to romance plotlines.

Taking part in a pairing week too. It's the last day and I have two days (or four chapters) left to do. It would have been fine, but my ideas have grown for every part to get longer and longer as the week went on. Whoops!

I've signed up for other exchanges, for some reason. Perhaps because I got really inspired by one of them and am hoping that another will do the same? Anyway, I'm currently working on one exchange and one Big Bang submission for YGO. Then it will be time to get back on the stupid Puzzle vs Haga duel which is causing me such problems.

Oh, and prepping for Domaystic. Both of those things. This weekend is busy though, so I'll probably only be finishing up the pairing week and then doing the rest of the stuff after the weekend.

Oh shit. Finish What You Started? When was that starting? When is it ending? I've forgotten everything.

I'm so deep in the HH/HB brainrot. Perhaps it is because I'm not wanting to write a duel, but I'm in Duelist Kingdom and the first duel is finally starting. There is so much of this story I want to write, but why so much Duel Monsters? No wonder both the manga and the anime made up whatever they wanted when it came to the game. It's easier than writing consistent rules.

I'm preparing for Domaystic in the meanwhile. I like having a lot of those prompts at least prepared so I can post daily in May. Hopefully I'll manage with it.

Can't believe you are doing more Squirrel Stapler.

a_mac_and_con avatar

Well, I'm not doing a great job with Finishing then. Oh well. XD

A friend helped me make real decks for everyone in Duelist Kingdom, so I'm good on that front. It's still hard work to make it all something interesting to read. But I've gotten some compliments on my writing of duels so far, so it's worth the effort to put into it!

Link to Domaystic coming right up!

Longer fic recommendations for road trip

I’m going on a road trip, and I’m interested in fic recommendations. I had a fic in mind to read during the trip, but as I’ve been reading it, it’s become a bit darker than I thought it would be. I may still read it some; it is well-written, but I want to have some backups in case it gets too much and I want to distract...

Here's a Mulan fanfic that I thought was quite good! It's a mix of the Disney flick and the original Ballad of Mulan.

There is some violence, because of course there is it is taking the fact of someone going to war seriously. Still, it goes into what if the main character was indeed trans and then how long an actual war would take.

Is there an aspect of more cringeworthy than writers trying and failing to craft believable, in-universe newspaper articles?

a_mac_and_con,
a_mac_and_con avatar

@jscholes Considering real life newspaper articles these days? The best way to make them realistic would be to make sure the first paragraph either has spelling errors or read like an AI spat them out. XD

Health is... healthing. I'm barely keeping up with anything I want to do. On the other hand, I'm reading a bit more. My newest fandoms are Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss and I need more of both of those.

I do like finishing what I've started. I'd be doing that anyway, so I'll be sure to be participating! Even if it is just in spirit.

They are both from the same creator and take place in the same world. So if you like one, you will probably like the other one. I adore HH, but I prefer the character focus in HB a lot more. Somehow I'm not surprised, considering HH is the one which got picked up by Amazon and HB is the free one on Youtube.

For the good news, while my brain was braining super hard, I ended up writing two ~2k stories for HB while I couldn't sleep. I like how they both turned out, so even if the entire process was pure pain, at least I made some great pieces from it. :)

It's sure helping out! Fandom can be such a balm during these trying times. C:

That's always a nice feeling. I love the surprise of finding that something old has new interest at the same time as I've figured out about it (or started looking into it). Good luck with the writing! I hope your fandom continues to grow in stories~

I've fallen behind in my plans, but I'm cutting myself a break. A short loss of power, some medical stuff, and general fatigue galore. I'm still getting in a bit of writing everyday... I'm pleased enough with what I'm still doing.

Oh, yes. This was also a game of my childhood. I first played it when I was six, maybe? Didn't get very far, because I never thought to go back to the place the Weasel popped out of for that final button to get out of the first area. I think I was eight when my older sib and I finally completed it. This was before I had access to the internet, so we called up the family member who had given it to us for hints when we finally put our nose to the grindstone to get it done.

In retrospect, the help we needed was ridiculous and somehow we figured out the harder puzzles with less issues. (Probably not me. My sib is better at those things than I am.)

I also didn't know anything about the biblical overtones, because I wasn't raised with religion. It was just nutty and unique. Yet I still listen to the Neverhood OST and quote Willie Trombone's tapes.

I remember being scared of the first person sections. I genuinely expected something to pop out. XD

a_mac_and_con,
a_mac_and_con avatar

Yeah, there really is nothing like the Neverhood OST either.

I'm glad I got the whole experience in my life before I really knew anything about Western religion or the creator. I just got to enjoy the game as a child would. With some help from smarter people around me. XD

Today I read the news.

...mentally and emotionally hurting counts too, right?

I missed this weekend. Was too busy recovering from January!

January was overall horrible for me because of a lot of life stuff. I have managed to keep up with my writing, but I'm not as far ahead as I'd wanted to be. Didn't even do everything I wanted this weekend. It's Femslash February, so I wanted to have something to post every day for it. I'll run out of what I had prepared for it in a few days and have no idea if I'll be able to get more done in time.

I'm participating in a minibang though and that's my priority. As it always is when other people are involved. :) That and my usual weekly chapter. Still haven't missed a week in one and a half years and I don't want to start now.

a_mac_and_con,
a_mac_and_con avatar

But I want to finish them! Completing them makes me happy!

Whether people like his videos or not is irrelevant. He has done a lot for lots of causes and he genuinely appears to wish everyone the best. It isn't a stunt. Over the years he's put his actions where his words are to prove that he cares.

I don't watch him as much as I used to, but whenever I do or hear something about him, that much hasn't changed.

Does AI-generated art posted on lemmy bother you?

I find that i can spot AI Images fairly easily these days, especially the sort of fantastical tableaus that get posted to the various AI communities around lemmy. I’m tired of seeing them; it all looks the same to me. Was wondering if im being too sensitive, or if other people are similarly bored of the constant unimaginative...

a_mac_and_con,
a_mac_and_con avatar

AI-generated art posted anywhere can bother me. It depends.

If the art comes with a post crediting the art and artists used to create the piece? I don't mind them, even if the art isn't to my taste. But more than often it's not. And I do consider it stealing if the AI-generated art wasn't pulling only from the person who was using the AI's own art.

As most take from anywhere on the internet and attributes it to no one, I shall continue to block.
