#Fanfiction - ignorieren, lesen, schreiben - Wie gehst Du damit um und wie stehst Du grundsätzlich dazu?
Habe schon sehr gute Fanfiction gelesen.
There is very little incentive to publish books through a publishing company. The financial incentive is truly negligible. It's nice to have professional editors, but if the book is freely available on GitHub, readers will correct your errors anyway. I don't think the promotion by a publisher does more than what you can achieve through social media. If you know how to use LaTeX, and you don't want your book to be protected by a paywall, my advice is to just make it public domain.
Yes and no. Depends on the type of books. Technical books, perhaps (but does anybody still read those?). But for the fiction books, good editors are a way more than just Grammarly+. Good editors made Jules Verne, Tolkien and other great writers possible. I read a lot of #fanfiction, and I can see how much 99.5% of all stories miss the hand of an editor, who would make them much better.
The worst thing in #fanfiction is when the author puts spoilers in the chapter titles. When I move between or just peak to see how far I have to go, I see those and it often ruins things that I wish weren't ruined.
Well, you'd think #AI and #generativeAI like #DALL·E wouldn't be a problem for #fanfiction and #fanart, where you can't own the IP or sell it, but you'd be wrong. People posing as fan artists and LoRa's and artist style stealing are all in the article. The fandom is #MLP. There are links to other related issues.
#Purim starts tonight – a Jewish holiday commemorating the rescue of the Jewish people from annihilation by Queen Esther, as told in the Bible's Book of Esther.
Purim is the only Jewish holiday with an entire biblical book about its origins. But the actual origins of the holiday are debated by scholars who note a lot of queer parts of the text – and how Esther's name sounds a lot like a Mesopotamian goddess.
"...a large fraction of the country does not follow the news. Not on TV, not in newspapers, and not on the Internet. They are busy living their lives and politics is simply not important to them."
This insight may come as a revelation.
We easily forget that the community we choose is different from that of the general population. My community on #Mastodon includes the masto-cognoscenti, #writers, #authors, #artists, #photographers, the #autistic, #neurodivergent, people into #SF, #fantasy, and #fanfiction, as well as political activism. Your community probably varies from mine, as does your follow list.
We see the world differently.
Why does it feel like the voting public is so easily swayed or conned by bad candidates or bad ideas? Not all people think way we do, or the way our chosen communities do. The above quote is from the linked article.
Keeping this all in mind, this insight provides...
a basis for strategies to change how the public thinks. We can't expect our arguments to work for them, nor that they're listening to the channels we use to promote our ideas
a reason to re-humanize our thinking about the 99% who, gasp, aren't stupid after all. Instead they're struggling, occupied making life work, or simply disinterested. We can let go of our anger and think rationally.
Visit #FanFiction.net, and you too can try to decide who you dislike more: #CloudFlare, the website admins, or the authors who keep posting there (hint: the last one is kind of unreasonable but not entirely without merit). Most websites give you at least one reason to hate them in 2024, but this is a three-for-one deal. For even more choice, get your #fanfic recommendations through #Reddit, where everybody ends up linking to the terrible, unnecessary mobile-specific version of the site because they have a terrible, unnecessary mobile-specific version of the site. #fanfiction
Hi! I'm (probably) Ember (trying it out). I also go by Zemri.
#Agender. They/them and neutral terms only unless otherwise indicated. #masc leaning in physical presentation. Been on T for almost 5 months now. Mostly just goblin mode at all times.
I didn't write as much in February as I did in January. 5125 words. But I did write every single day, so I've written something every day this year so far. I tried to not float around between ideas as much this month, which I think held me back. My ADD does not like to be restricted to one project. #amwriting#writing#fanfiction#fiction
#Etsy#FanFiction#Copyright#IP: "Etsy sellers are turning free fanfiction into printed and bound physical books, and listing them for sale on online marketplaces for more than $100 per book. It’s a problem that’s rattling the authors of those fanfics, as well as their fans and readers.
Several sellers, easily found on Etsy and very popular, each with hundreds of five-star reviews, are selling copies of fanfiction taken from sites like Archive of Our Own (Ao3) and reselling them as bound books. The average price of these bound copies is around $149. Some sellers claim that they’re simply covering the cost of materials, while others just sell the books, usually with the fanfiction writers’ Ao3 username on the cover.
This is hitting the “Dramione” fandom—which pairs Hermoine and Draco from the Harry Potter series—particularly hard, because this type of fanfic is extremely popular on Etsy. “All the Young Dudes,” a massively popular Harry Potter fanfic by MsKingBean89, is being sold by multiple sellers, including one that mostly sells bamboo and rattan handicrafts. “Manacled” by SenLiYu is another wildly popular one that’s been turned into merch and bound books on Etsy.
Some authors are deleting their works from the internet altogether to prevent book binding resellers stealing them."

You Shall Become (Me) by jedipati. Complete. This is a crack fic where the guardians of the sith temple are pissed off at Darth sidius for being a wanker and Obiwan accidentally becomes a sith Lord. Very good. Highly recommend. https://archiveofourown.org/works/6113875/chapters/14013484
The Desert Storm by Blue_Sunshine excellent storytelling, absolutely massive, (to the extent it reminds me of Saving Connor) still updating. This is a series of fics under a collection. Has a wide host of OC's and some excellent storytelling and development of Shmi's character. Later parts feature an incredibly scary Darth Plaegious. With all that said, it's pace is at times disappointingly slow, and I don't like Anakin, who the later parts focus on. https://archiveofourown.org/series/1311746
I think that's all for now. I'll add more as I find them. Feel free to recommend me fics to read as well. #reclist#swfic
This is a spoof of Hbomberguy's takedown of James Summerton... except.. it's SpaceBomberGuy making a five hour expose video on Chancellor Palpatine. It is amazing. Just amazing. I can't recommend it enough.
Commaful, a website specializing in short fiction stories will shut down on February 24, 2024. (commaful.notion.site)
