coffeetest,

I assume that most of the few of these that actually get made, will end up being parked on rich people's lawns as some sort of weird post-modern art meme sculpture or whatever.

ethereum moved to proof of stake sometime back. BTC and I think a few other (very) minor cryptos still use proof of work which is where the significant power usage goes. Not something I track but I believe the vast majority of non-BTC cyptos are proof of stake or something not proof of work anyway and BTC is the only one that uses proof of work and is used at all. That might not exactly be technically correct but it is in the practical realm.

coffeetest,

If he had to worry about simple things in life like food, shelter and paying the rent perhaps he'd be a bit more grounded in what's important in life and not lose sleep over a potential problem and stop a life equivalent of shitposting on humanity. Perhaps being a billionaire should be seen as a type of mental health issue.

let's tax income above say $1M per year at 100% for his own good.

Pompeo: US to back Ukraine no matter who wins presidential election (kyivindependent.com)

Mike Pompeo, a former U.S. State Secretary in Donald Trump's administration, said in a comment for New Voice on Nov. 27 that whether his former boss or any other candidate wins the 2024 presidential election, the support for Ukraine will continue.

coffeetest,

Ok, so he's saying that former guy who held money for Ukraine hostage for a political favor definitely won't do the exact thing again or simply out of spite? The same guy who is going around talking about punishing his enemies i.e. anyone who doesn't treat him like a god-emperor? The same guy whose party is currently sabotaging funding for Ukraine right now? Sure Mike.

Oh, wait this Mike Pompeo?

When asked about his knowledge of the controversial call made by President Trump on July 25, 2019, to Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in which Trump solicited assistance in investigating the son of former vice president and presidential candidate Joe Biden, Pompeo initially said he had little knowledge of Trump's call with Zelenskiy since he had not yet read the transcript of the call. It was later confirmed by officials that he himself had been on the call. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Pompeo

coffeetest,

"There are two parties in the US. These parties are centrist, big-tent, and from a policy standpoint, don’t dramatically differ."

If you think this, then I can see why you disagree. I'd have to ask by what measure do you make this claim? Or compared to what exactly? Personally I think this opinion out of date.

In my view, depending on how you look at it, the US has either 2 or 3 parties. Democrats, Republicans and MAGA. Traditional Republicans are so diminished some, myself included, consider them to not even be relevant. Heck Dems are more like traditional Republicans than Republicans are now.

MAGA is not centrist or big-tent and there are enough of them that can break things or hold hostages or say elect a religious lunny to be speaker of the house. They cling to extremist positions and absurd conspiracy theories, and attempt to force their will on to others. They run impeachment proceeding based on zero evidence with the hope they will turn something up to have to talk about and since there is nothing to find apparently, they literally make stuff up. They do not want to fund Ukraine for, some reason, and presently they are winning on that.

coffeetest,

I am clear on what MAGA is and in case you didn't notice there is a sizable enough of a group of R house of rep members who are MAGA zealots. I already mentioned these kooks, if you don't want to call the extremist Repub T worshippers, MAGA then that's fine but I think you are missing something fundamental.

"The only reference to Russia on said page is about how Biden isn’t tough enough on Russia and how Trump would take a harder line on Russia. "

So we should just forget about what T actually did while in office and use this absurd claim from his campaign website as "evidence"? The man is a gigantic liar.

From the article: "I think it would be very difficult to get it done by the end of the year, and the impediment, currently, is the White House policy on the southern border," Turner said, as quoted by Bloomberg.

So says, Mike Turner, Republican member of the most dysfunctional house of reps probably ever due to Republicans.

From the article: "Congressional Republicans are seeking to link their approval for the foreign military assistance to stricter border policies"

Ah yes, the Republicans required border policies be linked to funding for Ukraine, knowing that they will never compromise with Biden on border policies. The Republicans are holding Ukraine funding hostage for something they want. Hum, where have I heard something like that before...

Took me a moment to realize what exodus this was referring to which I guess answers the question. I deleted my fairly old account during the AMA at the beginning and I do not miss it. From time to time I have been back for those specific things that have developed communities that do not really exist on kbin but I'll never post there again and I probably visit the R site maybe twice a month.

While kbin doesn't have everything that I hope that it would, so far I find it good and I visit daily.

So these days my only social media, if you call kbin that, are kbin and Mastodon. X, FB, insta, whatever corporate BS are all 0% usage for me now. Very occasionally I view tildes but I don't even have an account there.

He Was Once a Favorite of the Right. Now, Mike Pence Can’t Get a Crowd of 15 to a Pizza Ranch. (www.politico.com)

Highlights: To watch Pence on the trail these days is to see a man navigating the awkward, abrupt transition from being next in the line of presidential succession just four years ago to backbencher status among the Republican field. You can see him grapple with his own political mortality, working it out in public....

coffeetest,

I don't think he was anyone's favorite. If I recall correctly he was going to lose in Indiana before T picked him up to use him.

coffeetest,

Let's see.

coffeetest,

I certainly do not know but perhaps it is enough of an advantage in streamlining this massive case? I would think every co-defendant who pleads guilty, no matter their testimony strengthens the case against the others.

coffeetest,

I am not sure the people who were in that hospital care that much. Both Israel and Hamas share blame in this situation no matter who's rocket it was.

coffeetest,

How much of an improvement is this than what they currently have or is it just more tanks overall?

coffeetest,

Thanks for that info and I hope they find a good way to use these to their advantage.

coffeetest,

I think that is all true. He did his best to avoid the deposition and when suddenly forced into it, dropped the case. If I have it right, his witness list was him and Cohen - "my word vs yours" doesn't make for a legit sounding $500M suit. I think it was done purely for revenge reasons. He dragged Cohen through the process, caused significant legal expenses etc.

coffeetest,

Really? You do the investigation and if you find evidence then you do something about it. It's kind of fundamental to the US system of justice. I guarantee their investigation will hurt, because that is its real purpose. You've done nothing wrong would it be ok for us to comb through your every communication and detail of you life till we find something we don't like?

Endless investigations always hurt anyway because it takes away from the actual work that Congress is elected to do. Not that the GOP actually wants to do anything. And as we have seen these sorts of investigations are used to hurt opponents, even though they have done nothing wrong or even done the right thing. For example Durham's idiotic investigations. Durham and his investigation was a total failure but they did harm to the people involved who didn't deserve it.

coffeetest,

I am guessing that math is based on a high-capacity EV battery on a home 240v circuit. Much shorter on a fast charger of course and 110v would be days. I can't see anyone at home charging an EV in minutes at home anytime soon. It would be some kind of scene of our Doc's lab in Back to the Future.

coffeetest,

Oh Vlad, flail some more. Your psychology is so twisted you think an unjust invasion of a sovereign state is something the west forced you to do... or wait I mean, because it was full of nazis and out of the goodness of your heart you had to make it right... or um... pass the vodka.

coffeetest,

My Intel Arc 750 works quite well at 1080 and is perfectly sufficient for me. If people need hyper refresh rates and resolution and all all the bells well then have fun paying for it. But if you need functional, competent gaming, at US$200 Arc is nice.

coffeetest,

Wow directly intervening in a foreign war. He's insane.

[Poll Analysis] Lauren Boebert begs supporters for help after admitting her campaign is flailing (www.lgbtqnation.com)

It’s official: Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert (R) is scared. Recent polling has shown Democratic frontrunner Adam Frisch in the lead in Boebert’s district, and now the anti-LGBTQ+ Congresswoman is pleading with voters for help....

coffeetest,

Not that I really know anything about this but isn't this a state's rights issue? Don't states determine their own ballets? Anyway, this will be interesting to watch. I'd like to think we can't be sure of the results.

No matter how it goes, I think this will be damaging to the GOP which is fine by me. They married the criminal and I am sure there are those who wish to cut him loose and those who can't give him up.

Putin: West put ethnic Jew to rule in Ukraine to 'cover glorification of Nazism' (www.unionleader.com)

Sept 5 (Reuters) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a television interview on Tuesday, without citing evidence, that Western powers had installed Volodymyr Zelenskiy, who is of Jewish heritage, as president of Ukraine to cover up the glorification of Nazism....

coffeetest,

I had the Baratza Encore for years and it served me well. I replaced the burrs once and it needed that again since I got a coffee bean-sized small rock in my beans that wore them down by the time I could turn it off. The grinder did an admirable job of attempting to grind down the stone but didn't succeed. The grinder still worked but it was grinding very slowly. I could have replaced the burrs again which I will and that grinder will go to the office for use but it had been requested that I get a more quiet grinder. It is not that the Encore is so loud but it's an electric grinder after all.

So in my research, I came across the 1Zpresso manual grinders. I ended up with the K-Max. It's great and I highly recommend it. I'm only grinding 18g of coffee at a time for my cup but it's pretty fast, easy, and quiet. If you are grinding a lot of coffee it might be too annoying. As far as grind quality I think it does a better job than the Encore and it just feels great to use. Anyway, an option people might want to consider.
