Trying a switch to tal@lemmy.today, at least for a while, due to recent kbin.social stability problems and to help spread load.

Well, a considerable portion of his comments seem to be insulting people, so that's probably about par for the course.

I'm not really enthusiastic about email filters either, from a privacy standpoint. Plenty of companies that go harvest email addresses to link identities to activity. And even if the instance admin isn't doing that, it's one more thing that someone could break into a server and swipe.

If the CAPTCHA can't handle it, then it ain't doing its job.

Regardless, the FTC also argues that this manufactured categorization doesn't matter because Microsoft's exclusivity decision applied to "all future ZeniMax games." While Microsoft said in 2021 that "some" future Bethesda games would be Xbox exclusives, no Bethesda non-exclusives have been announced since then.

I'm fairly confident that I read someone saying -- maybe on /r/fallout or /r/fo76 or somewhere -- that Bethesda had stated that existing franchises would not be XBox-only, though new ones could.

That may-or-may-not have been an accurate representation of what was said (I only read their summary) and may-or-may-not have changed since then, but that's what I recall the statement being.

Actually, now that I think about it - is the US military or coast guard even authorized to operate in the Mediterranean?

Aside from territorial waters, you don't need authorization to operate in the ocean. It's international waters.

There are international agreements to cover maritime search-and-rescue in certain areas, so that (most of the time) two countries don't just point their fingers at each other and say "this one is your problem", but it's not as if you're not allowed to rescue someone in an area that someone else is responsible for rescuing people in.

Chain restaurant fees are getting absurd

I got this fun fee after trying to order takeout from Buffalo Wild Wings (yes I'm naming and shaming). How exactly does adding a dollar help you operate takeout? It's literally less work than waiting on a table. This is nothing more than a shameful cash grab to pad profits....

Lemmy and kbin have a bunch of sublemmys/magazines, and there are probably going to be a lot more.

You could maybe argue that !mildlyinfuriating shouldn't have that, but anything and everything is going to show up somewhere on the Fediverse.

It affects me too. Only the mobile site, probably because they're trying to get mobile users to use their app and they don't have a desktop app.

That's not a feature of even Lemmy itself, so how do you expect Jerboa to pull it off?

From a technical standpoint, I'm pretty confident that it could be done client-side via polling the list of followed users. Lemmy does expose their comments.

It's not permissible in regular English grammar, but it's used in headlines, which have somewhat different rules. I'd guess that you're not a native speaker -- I used to hang out on /r/Europe a lot, which had a lot of people who spoke English as a second language, and they had tons of people saying that they couldn't understand newspaper headlines.

I don't know what the right level of risk is, but I do agree that if you're engaging in extreme tourism, you have to understand that there's going to be a level of risk associated with it. You want to visit Antarctica, you're going to inevitably be exposed to more risk than if you visit the park down the road. Same thing with space travel. Same thing with deep undersea stuff.
