@knowattitude
I'll say, they're a store that sells BED'S CHAIR'S and more Could be them? NO apostrophe in GOODWINS
Goodwins Mills General Store
482 Goodwins Mills Rd, Lyman, ME 04002, United States
@Rasta it is an interesting question of philology why the possessive declension bears an apostrophe as though it is not a declension but rather a fully isolated appendage. The case of its (possessive) vs it’s (it is) shows that the contraction takes precedence. A comparable language like Danish that does not use an apostrophe for the possessive declension really shows how arbitrary that decision was.
@zephyrleifrenner THEIR THERE THEY'RE .. LOL, English isn't the only language of mystery. I'm always guessing how the French know what to bring for a wedding gift?
Is it a towel, napkin, briefcase, serviette
Or maybe they married late, and the gift list said diaper, or nappy?
@Rasta and it is interesting how they dumped the structure of both original languages. It became something almost gesticulated and spoken loudly. YOU pointing, GO pointing, TO THE STORE pointing. Preferring the emphatic pronouns over the conjugation. And first in the sentence to give context to the rest. Very rare conjugated verbs (with a slight preference for OE). Adverbs are a hoot. They didn’t exist. They were compounds ending in like. Pirate speak.
@zephyrleifrenner And how language changes, even between regions. I lived in Northern Germany in the 60s, and in Southern Germany in the 70s. Back then, I spoke a little German, I took it in School. But they didn't sound or use the same words in the Black Forest as they did in the North
@Rasta 🤣🤣🤣No kidding!! I learned this week that law enforcement is generally useless. They don't prevent shit. They only sometimes solve crimes AFTER the fact. Not feckin helpful. Prevent crime. Dolts.
@originlbookgirl I used to have a rural home. I still do, but I can't live there. My wife was there alone, when 20-30 local hillbillies showed up on my front lawn with booze, drinking and trespassing (also the property is surrounded by ocean, not neighbours)
When you called the RCMP for help, they radio from the city to the local branch (before encryption) and announce your name (in public) address, and phone number, then leave to help you. A car drives up "COPS ARE COMING" and everyone leaves
@originlbookgirl Yea, rural folks can be funny too. They are all interrelated and will defend the worse criminals. I had a guy break in my house, was seen, and he had a beard.He shaved his off and took another guy to court with a beard and said it wasn't me, probably the other guy that looked like me, and walked
@Gustodon
Our local headquarters of FEDERAL POLICE (RCMP) paid a contractor to paint this sign. They pointed it ot to me for crossing into their coveted parking area (I was taking a photo) and they pointed to the sign... HERE's your sign https://mstdn.ca/@Rasta/112134669915170110
@SNerd You know, merchants and business rarely paint their own sign? If you look around, you'll see tons of misprints and errors in really embarrassing situations, such as: Government contract, $9000 to paint sign on parking lot driveway at Police Headquarters, and he's what they paid for
@deepmud How expensive and embarrassing. I doubt the officers driving over it, noticed the spelling. I saw it right away when they told me to get out of their backyard. I was shooting photos when they chased me away pointing to the sign... first, I didn't DRIVE in, I walked across the grass, second, what does that even mean? And I took the phono
@JoCzechowska Different sign painter. it's not to bad if you make the mistake yourself and can just paint the apostrophe out, but if you paid the sign painter 1000s for a sign and you got this, it must be government work
@Rasta One could argue that the store may belong to Sofa, Chair, Recliner and Bed having taken possession from Goodwyn (apparently lacking the apostrophe of possession).
@MayhamMonday I wasn't allowed to say AIN'T or any slang as they called it, when I grew up> There were too many relatives that taught school at one time.
