@shekinahcancook Slavery was officially abolished in Qatar in 1952, about 87 years after the USA. The Global Slavery Index 2023 estimates that in Qatar 6.8 per 1,000 people live in slavery. In the US it is 3.3 and in the UK 1.8. As a comparison, Saudi Arabia is at 21.3 and North Korea at 104.6.
So, I don’t believe your statement is correct.
Mouthing the right words or even adopting the right docs with a wink and a nod to get foreign busy bodies to shut up does not change the reality on the ground. Especially when holding workers hostage and withholding their pay is not only common but was in the news lately. But you don't care, apparently, as long as you can get your cheap vacation from the slave labor.
My source was Wikipedia, which should be pretty well up to date, and describes how they just shuffled around the laws a bit and didn't really change anything. The workers are slaves who are not allowed to leave and often not paid at all or not paid what they were promised. It's slavery, pure and simple.
