A question for people in Paris:

We´ll be on a family vacation in France in the 2nd half of May, and are pondering whether to visit Paris.

Are there any important limitations due to the preparation for the Olympics? Major sights blocked off, or anything like that? Lots of security hassle?

We´ll be travelling with children, so we´re trying to avoid long queues etc.

@slothrop Queues are endless at the museums but Paris is awesome outside the museums too.

I have no answers for you except to encourage you to go to Paris whenever you have a chance.

@slothrop the only hassle is that I ask you let me know if you do ;-)

@hugo Yes! We´re in typical Slothrop family planning mode, which basically is "we´ll see when we get there".

So everything might happen on rather short notice...

@slothrop should work ;-)

By the way this may be useful for you though not sure it’s available in English

@hugo Look, I´m (barely) on a solid B1 level in French by now, according to Duolingo! Should be no problem at all!

@hugo According to this page, there shouldn´t be any issues at the time in question.

@slothrop For now no restrictions are in place but a lot of work / buildings being reworked etc.

If you want to avoid queues I can only recommend that you book what ever you wish to visit before hand on internet to have virtual ticket.

Also avoid bringing knives and others tools in your bag as everything will be screened. Also always have your passport on you.

@shalien "prepare to be cavity searched at any time" 😜

OK, thanks! Those are good hints.

@slothrop Actually we (French) don't do that without explicit consent.

But you could be kept a few hours at a police station for having a butter knife in your pack ata museum for example. x)

Have a nice trip, don't forget some masks for pollution filtering

@slothrop For now it's still okay. But queues tend to always be long in Paris if you want to go see the more touristic place.
There are nice museums accessible for children, but I'm not sure how interesting they are if nobody speak french in your group. (There are always text and audio-guide in english but I never tried them)

@Janvanhouten Thanks!

I know that cities - and Paris in particular - are always challenging to visit with kids.

My question is whether Paris is more challenging than usual at the time in question (end of May).

@slothrop We went in the center of Paris this weekend, and It doesn't seem worse than usually.
But we didn't try to go sightseeing. But near Beaubourg everything was as usual.

@slothrop @oliof What I've heard from some tiktoks: don't go. I guess it will be quite the shitshow.
