TBH, I think you're getting warmer with "super-naive". I also wonder if at this point he identifies more with techbro-titans than with the FOSS-folk. But you're right that, either way, the outcome is still just as shitty

That kills me, Eugen describing Mastodon as a "privacy-friendly" platform. And sure, that's why I signed up here. But as soon as Meta is here it's no longer "privacy-friendly."

@ophiocephalic @arthunter Whilst I am concerned about how this will pan out, I think you are misrepresenting/misunderstanding what was actually stated. Eugen didn't say you can't see ads from threads. He said mastodon is ad-free, insofar as it does not take paid advertising. Mastodon isn't actually ad free. e.g. I could toot an ad for my radio station. But I couldn't spam it to everyone even if I wanted to. That's the actuality.
He can't (and isn't) making statements about other SM providers.
