I was curious if any #gacha games allowed players to access an #API to get information or even perform tasks. I had assumed the answer would be no or, at best, some newish small game by devs trying to get hired by a bigger company (like the team behind #BistroHeroes).
It turns out, grand daddy of gacha games, #Kancolle allows exactly that. The game originally ran in Flash back in 2013 and used a REST based API where they POSTed JSON to send information. Over the decade of development including migrating to HTML5 and making dedicated apps hasn't changed that. Their API is even still on version 1.0, hilariously.
And it fostered exactly the kind of ecosystem that I was expecting. There are browser extensions, side programs, and tools for showing off your collection on social media. It's not perfect by any stretch since the API was clearly never designed to be used directly by players but they have allowed it to flourish anyway.
I hope that more games decide to try the retro thing of being player friendly in that specific way.
As a side note, apparently #GirlsFrontline has something similar in GFLAlarm but with the caveat that there is no exposed API. It uses a combination of packet sniffing and emulation to get info the same way that you should be able to get it from a nice friendly API.
Props to the absolutely insane fans who made that possible.
@globalc@Sibshops Yeah. #japan -ese perfection included. Each device comes with either UTP or power cable that actually fits either front ethernet ports or backside power strip...
Also has the wonderful effect of causing older gachapon games to often have 5-10 separate gachas at a time!!!
Remember when mobile games were "simple"? Hasn't been the case in almost 10 years at this point. Gameplay wise maybe, but there's dozens or hundreds of menus, dozens of currencies, multiple time limited events at all times...gross gross gross.
Just saw this header with these apps in the Google Play Store.
So, umm, is anyone going to roll on Adobeko's new banner this week or are you waiting for one of the leaked typing or signature supports? #gacha#gachagames
When rolling for Clotho in #NeuralCloud I wasn't spooked by Nanaka, this time it was Hubble, the doll who shows up second most often on rate up :neocat_googly_blep:
Or maybe it wasn't technically a spook since she showed up after Clotho in the same ten pull? Still, getting the rate up character within 60 pulls is always nice.
Regardless, I still can't wrap my head around the monetization for Neural Cloud as a #gacha game. I only spend real world money on the monthly pass, the battle pass, and maybe a third of the skins. That works out to around $15-25/month yet I must be considered a big spender because I get every new character I try for (at least 80% of them) with resources left over. Why are they so aggressive showing off a million different packs, bundles, limited time specials, and the like? The game is F2P friendly and you can get everything on the cheap, so why masquerade like you're an awful wallet vampire?
