Bag Man: A Rachel Maddow podcast from MSNBC
This is an excellent podcast with just seven episodes. It talks about a very little discussed topic: Nixon's corrupt vice president. I've never even heard the name Spiro Agnew before, but he got very close to becoming president himself and he was insanely corrupt. What's interesting is that they did extensive research for this podcast, interviewing the attorneys that were involved back then and going through archives. What they found is what neoliberal hero George HW Bush was also part of the corruption. When Spiro Agnew was investigated for taking bribes, it was Bush's job to talk to a sitting senator (John Baell) who's brother was the attorney general (George Baell) investigating Agnew. The goal was to get the attorney general to drop this case through his brother. It's a wild story that is not known about enough. In the end Agnew took a plea deal to avoid prosecution, the only reason being that with Watergate going on, there was a chance he'd get away with everything by replacing Nixon. There's a lot of parallels to Trump in there as well. I highly recommend listening to the whole thing.
