Saudis Contradict Blinken: Want Actual Palestinian State now, not Vague 'Peace Process'
https://www.juancole.com/2024/02/contradict-blinken-palestinian.html

"The Kingdom has communicated its firm position to the U.S. administration that there will be no diplomatic relations with Israel unless an independent Palestinian state is recognised on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital..."

    While I broadly agree with you, I think now is possibly the best chance there has ever been, and possibly will be for a long time to come, for a two state solution to be implemented, because for the first time, there is a strong international push for it. Am I optimistic? No.

    As for Israel being horrible for the US, absolutely, and yes it has only itself to blame.

    That would be ideal, yes. But I see it as far less likely. The racism runs deep.

    But your point on Israel interfering with a future Palestine is well made.

    Yeah I guess. Both options are very very difficult

  • nicholas_saunders,

    @GhostOnTheHalfShell @Miro_Collas @palestine it's far from a do or die situation for Hamas:

    Arguably, it's a do or die situation for Israel. I'd say instead that they're on the horns of a dilemma. Assuming that the comes down against them, the question raised is what military response to the next operation would be legal.

    Which I've not heard anyone address.

    The strategy of Hamas is to repeat their recent success.

    Yeah it is a mess, to put it very mildly. And with the US giving unconditional support to Israel rather than reigning it in, I don't see things improving there anytime soon.

    Nonetheless, maybe, just maybe there is a glimmer of hope for Palestinians now. (As I said, I'm not really optimistic.) And maybe that is what Hamas were going for on Oct 7.

    @palestine

    nicholas_saunders,

    @Miro_Collas @GhostOnTheHalfShell @palestine pardon, what was Hamas going for with the Al Aqsa Flood?

    Seems to me that they're in a stronger position now, and more popular than ever, with greatly increased international support.

    They play the long game.

    Beyond that objective of I admit to having limited insight.

    @nicholas_saunders.
    I have no insight whatsoever - which is why I said "maybe". I was speculating.
