It is still "very early on" to see improvements on the frontline after the first batch of U.S. weapons started flowing to Ukraine, U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin told senators on May 8.
The world slept through the rebirth of Nazism at 5 a.m. on February 24, 2022. And today, everyone who remembers World War II and has survived to this day feels a sense of déjà vu.
The Battle of Kyiv, the bombings of Kharkiv, Odesa, and Dnipro, mass graves, child deportations, filtration camps, and colonies for captives. Russia has brought pages from World War II textbooks back into the global media spotlight, demonstrating that Nazism has resurfaced with each new crime. #AureFreePress#Zelensky
It’s unbelievable how Europe is sleepwalking towards the next complete European war 🤦🏻♀️
Even after so many years of a genocide war inside Ukraine 🇺🇦 it seems that Europe is only able to show its incompetence, powerlessness and unwillingness to stop the terrible and devastating war in #Ukraine
#Europe itself will ultimately pay an extremely high and very deadly price for its incredible naivety
The first board game printed in America was called "The Travellers' Tour." It described itself as a "pleasing and instructive pastime," and consists of a hand-colored map of the then-24 states, with numbered circles, and a numbered list of 139 towns and cities. The game used a teetotum — an alternative to dice but without the gambling connotations — and was based on players' memories and geographical knowledge. Here's @TheConversationUS's Matthew Wynn Sivils on what the game can teach us about the U.S. in the 19th century. Tell us in the comments what board games you recommend!

#EU#USA#Innovation#DigitalRights#TechPolicy#TechRegulation#DigitalEconomy : "This Article challenges the common view that more stringent regulation of the digital economy inevitably compromises innovation and undermines technological progress. This view, vigorously advocated by the tech industry, has shaped the public discourse in the United States, where the country’s thriving tech economy is often associated with a staunch commitment to free markets. US lawmakers have also traditionally embraced this perspective, which explains their hesitancy to regulate the tech industry to date. The European Union has chosen another path, regulating the digital economy with stringent data privacy, antitrust, content moderation, and other digital regulations designed to shape the evolution of the tech economy towards European values around digital rights and fairness. According to the EU’s critics, this far-reaching tech regulation has come at the cost of innovation, explaining the EU’s inability to nurture tech companies and compete with the US and China in the tech race. However, this Article argues that the association between digital regulation and technological progress is considerably more complex than what the public conversation, US lawmakers, tech companies, and several scholars have suggested to date. For this reason, the existing technological gap between the US and the EU should not be attributed to the laxity of American laws and the stringency of European digital regulation. Instead, this Article shows there are more foundational features of the American legal and technological ecosystem that have paved the way for US tech companies’ rise to global prominence—features that the EU has not been able to replicate to date."
“Israel should not launch a major ground operation in #Rafah, where more than a million people are sheltering with nowhere else to go,” said a senior administration official, explaining the #US decision to pause the #weapons shipments. “We are especially focused on the end-use of the 2,000-pound bombs and the impact they could have in dense urban settings as we have seen in other parts of #Gaza.” https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2024/05/07/biden-delays-weapons-israel-rafah/
File this under the heading economics is not even a dismal science, because mainstream economics isn’t even science. Economics could actually be a rigorous discipline, if orthodoxy can be kicked out.
“ In contrast to its attitude to private debt, which it ignores, mainstream economics obsesses about government debt. But this volte-face doesn't besmirch its record of being 100% wrong.”
»Netzpolitik: Tiktok-Mutter Bytedance will mit Klage drohendes US-Verbot abwenden.
Geforderter Verkauf "weder kommerziell, noch technologisch, noch rechtlich" möglich.«
