@thanius@pezmico Home ownership is full of risks. Making the house payments, continuing income from a job that could go away, insurance, property taxes, sewer and trash fees, repairing roofs, fixing plumbing, maintaining the yard, painting. Renting includes these things, and rents are taxed as income. Let's not mention units trashed by tenants, but wear and tear still cost months of rent to fix. If someone doesn't pay and provide housing—and attract renters to make it possible to do this—the government does it (or not)... that works very well, too, so I've heard.
Not saying there aren't price gouging a--holes out there that aspire to be tenement owners, and corporations that have bean counters that make it worse, who tear down and build units no mortal can afford. It's just not a cookie cutter solution and it's not just forcing rents low. It requires thought.
