Seems like there should be a feature to offer the full Lemmy community and posts for all federated instances. This would serve a multi-node/instance backup that doesn't rely on the users to search for posts on instances they are lurking in. The manual searching function is just not user friendly....
So i made a lemmy group but im not sure how to get more people to use the group and post on it, i had one person post but they deleted there post and i think they left becasue the group is just that small. do i just wait or is there something i can do to grow the group?...
I’m a long time Reddit lurker who’s learning how to post for once. Sorry if this has already been asked but I can’t find a thread about this. How do you cross-post? I’m posting in https://sh.itjust.works/c/velvethippos and want to cross-post in https://lemmy.ml/c/aww and https://beehaw.org/c/animals. Any help is...
Apollo was already a nice app so why didn't reddit just buy apollo and integrate ads into it and just keep the features that made everyone happy.
So at work today, the discussion of household heating and gas/electricity bills came up (entering winter Down Under), and I commented that we have our central heating set to 14 Celsius (approx 57 Freedoms) overnight, and off during the day/evening. We find that 14 is quite comfortable under a fluffy doona/duvet. I was warmly...
Which major instances are know for having or not having censorship?
I was wondering how many people were just on vacation here and how many committed. I don't see an option to make a poll so I will make comments and you can vote on them. (Voting doesn't give karma like on *eddit so it's not for personal gain, I'm just genuinely curious.)
Let me give you an example:...
Don't know if its the right community, but i'm having trouble finding an answer. Is there a way to automaticly see full width media while scrolling my feed?
As I understood I can only count those who were subscribed from my instance but not the overall number. I do see users per month and per day but these aren't of my interest
I get that, if things are not changed on the Apple side, websites can't have proper notification so you are forced to have an app but on android PWA (Progressive Web Apps - basically websites on steroids) are a real thing and you can just "install" the lemmy website of your instance and avoid any bloated app. Are you looking for...
Can this be instantly achieved? Or is it inevitable that this process of reaggregation into single community will continue for a long time (months or even years)? Let's discuss!...
Serious question, as I‘ve barely seen any mention of Lemmy on Reddit. None of the Mod posts regarding the Blackout mentioned Lemmy as far as I‘m aware. Would it be against the TOS to start a coordinated promotion?
The federated concept is nice. But I feel like what will happen in the end is that most of the content will end up on few instances. This still gives power to the owners of these instances, and if they delete the instance a lot of people would lose accounts?...
I have a problem now that there are some active communities that I have no interest in seeing on my feed. And new ones keep popping up so I have to go in and block them individually. They all have similar keywords and it would be nice if we could block communities based on regexp or a keyword
Disclaimer: I'm an accountant who knows nothing about federation, hosting, coding, etc. Just a really simple old-ish person looking for a good alternative to Reddit. :-)...
The problem is currently that by default it shows active posts, and its been the same posts for days now. What options do you use for sorting when doomscrolling to see interesting content?
For me, it'd probably be teleportation. The possibilities with teleportation are basically limitless....
Whether it's in this thread or a community that you feel needs more subscribers.
Title. Could be apps or websites.
if you have multiple accounts on different Lemmy instances is there a way (a script maybe) that can sync your subscribed communities across the different accounts? say for example, your main instance goes down and you need to login to a different instance but want to see all the same community content
I’m really bought in to the Lemmy experience and I want others to share similar interests. However, I know they will have a massive amount of questions, and I want to be able to answer them in addition to my own curiosities. Here are a few questions that I have that I am still fuzzy on....
For me, the content created by communities that is exclusively available on that site is really helpful to me. If possible I would definitely try and archive a few subreddits and write something to search and access it offline (sorta like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kiwix but for reddit).
