Yeah there were a lot of screwups in the Morrison Government's response, and further reviews are needed, but I honestly don't think a royal commission in to it is the right approach to take. To me that feels way too weaponised & bad faith, like the ceiling batts enquiry.

@bastardsheep I think we need a review to inform our future preparedness. Would a royal commission do that, or are they always about finger pointing?

@Jakra Too many lately have been about finger pointing and targetting select people / parties, which is the main reason for my knee-jerk reaction and dislike of it. Even if a royal commission is one of the few review types that has the powers to compel uncomfortable answers.

If it does go forward I'm really hoping they very firmly scope it towards informing & future preparedness, as you say (and as I said in my own reply to my post). Try to be clear this isn't like a lot of RC's of recent years that have been tarnished from the outset.

Yes the Morrison Government screwed up lots of it. Yes in some ways self-servingly. But to get the most constructive results this needs to focus more on how to do things right in the future, be best placed should something like this happen again, not punishing for what was done in the past.
