Pushing copilot.

Thought their last assistant was meant to be the be-all and end-all of assistants to end all assistants (that I also never used). You know, the one named after the halo character. Whatsherface.

B is getting weird errors on machine translated French property ads. It keeps giving English words that don’t exist. Which is not helpful

@stufromoz I see they've gone with AI / LLM translations.

@stufromoz A French word that when translated to English triggers an ancient pagan spell that could cause ultimate destruction?

Windows just tried to turn off outlook notifications because I haven't interacted with them for a while.

MOST OF THE TIME THE POINT OF THE NOTIFICATION IS THE NOTIFICATION ITSELF!!!

What is with OS makers? iOS prompts me about this too. Stop being so needy. Not everything needs interaction.

@jpm If I didn't want them I would turn them off. I do want them, that's why they're on.

The Liberals will have a field day with this when it happens, despite the fact it's purely their fault for burying their heads in the sand about transitioning from coal to renewables.

Doubled down on coal so the transition didn't have any prepatory work done and problems got kicked down the road to Labor. Who aren't much better. Just as in the pocket of coal & gas.

I watch a lot of dashcam vids (mostly DCOA). A not insignificant number of crashes are caused by someone "being courteous" as opposed to following the right-of-way laws.

Follow right-of-way. Be courteous ONLY within right-of-way rules or when there's grey zones about who has right-of-way. Never be courteous in ways that go against right-of-way rules. https://xkcd.com/2932/

bastardsheep,
@bastardsheep@aus.social avatar

@WTL For Australian videos DCOA is the best. I'm also subbed to "Scotts Car Cameras". But there's a lot of self reporting in there (people being technically right but still an arsehole, such as closing gaps so others whose lanes are ending can't merge), and a LOT of really mundane stuff such as people in b-doubles that are a lot harder to slow down going through red lights by less than a second on otherwise dead quiet intersections.

Sometimes I just need a break from Scotts due to all the mundane stuff and self reporting.

bastardsheep,
@bastardsheep@aus.social avatar

@WTL Oh, DCOA is also on twitch. There's a stream every Sunday at 7pm Sydney time.

It's just the videos that end up going in to the weekly submission videos. But with chat. And sometimes kitties.

Corporate Australia fucking loves a PDF.

Link on intranet: "Get IT Support"

Links to a PDF which explains at length how to log a ticket.

Because linking straight to ServiceNow would be, I guess... illogical?

@drunkenmadman Staff love making logging a ticket more arduous than responding to and resolving the ticket.

"What option do I select?"

"What do I do then?"

Despite having owned a sub to a VPN company for years (and these days using tailscale to VPN back to my home network), I still preference my own mobile data over public/hotel wifi with a VPN running.

Here's one good reason for doing that.

"It's going to be a bloody disaster": Tell me again about how the second road tunnel under Sydney Harbour won't make congestion worse?

"Civil engineer Les Wielinga, a former CEO at the now-defunct Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA), made the fiery comments at a NSW parliamentary inquiry into the bungled Rozelle Interchange.

"The Western Harbour Tunnel, which is under construction, will allow drivers travelling between the inner west and the North Shore to bypass the CBD.

"Entries and exits to the tunnel will lie at the Ernest Street interchange in Cammeray and near the Falcon Street interchange at North Sydney.

"'It's going to be a bloody disaster,' Mr Wielinga told the upper house committee on Friday.

"Paul Forward, another former CEO of the RTA, told the inquiry he was concerned about the project's design.

"'You've now got three motorways coming out into this short area, and whilst I would recognise there are some exit points, some off-ramps, those motorways are now all going into the Lane Cove Tunnel,' he said.

"'A large number of lanes are going into two lanes at the Lane Cove Tunnel. Sounds familiar?'"

@erkpod @Rentlar Really hoping that opens before the Wallabies matches start this year. Getting current public transport home means at the final transport change I have to wait for busses that only come every hour, and I ALWAYS get there < 5 minutes after the last bus left.

The metro will get me close enough to home it’s just a casual stroll. And is SO much more regular at all hours.
