@bookstodon Even if it doesn't catch on, I would like to institute a hashtag which already exists, I believe? Anywho, whatcha reading?

Ben H. Winter's new book BIG TIME, and it's really good so far. It is lean, so perfect for those who hate padding in their stories. I don't want to give away the premise, so I will just say that it's a bit of a thriller that involves time itself.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon I'm re-reading Ursula K. Le Guin's the Dispossessed. First read it back in the late 90s and missed so much. Now I'm reading this capitalism v anarchism story and every chapter elicits a holy crap! for one reason or another.

@StefanieH @bookstodon My favorite of her work! I doubt I still have them, but I took notes on the science, observations, etc. A reread in today's climate is an excellent idea. Such an incredibly intelligent novel.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon I've got a dogear every few pages. And the technical science bits are fun too even though I have no idea if it's valid, the idea of it is great. But the politics! So insightful and thought-provoking! And I keep imagining what would happen in today's USA if tens of thousands of people showed up in the streets to protest.

@StefanieH @bookstodon If the U.S. were a little more compact, the government would not be so insulated, but compared to most, we sure are spread out. 3/4 of my state is forested. I wonder what would happen if we all protested where we lived?

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon Very good point! It makes working locally even more important. Le Guin is so good at making us think! I miss her so much.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon Will start Red Widow tonight, I’ve been on a spy novel tear. Finished off Black Wolf last night, overall liked it even as it unfolded slowly and was a twist on the genre. Just had one element that I felt got too much attention and kind of didn’t even matter to the overall story.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon I am reading The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman

Been around the Hmong in NorCal all my life and knew a bit of their history, but this book is eye opening. My son read it for a high school English class last year and was surprised I had not read it.

@n8dly @bookstodon This does sound informative, intriguing, and profound.

Christel Lüttichau's "Grønlænderinden", a biography on Maria Mayer, a woman who represented Greenland (Kalaallit Nunaat) and the town of Nuuk in many occasions since her school year in Denmark and au pair lives in different countries. It is fascinating to read her life story from the 1930s to the 2010s. So many things I did not know about Greenland, and a personal life story with many twists and turns.

@kimlockhartga @bookstodon I'm reading The Dawn of Everything, A New History of Humanity by David Graeber and David Wengrow. It's fascinating so far. Turns centuries of academic thought about human history upside down by tying a lot of disparate strands of evidence together.

@rabbit_fighter @kimlockhartga @bookstodon Yes, it’s an eye opening book. Very interesting to recognize the diversity and complexity of civilizations over thousands of years.

@kimlockhartga @cthon1c @bookstodon Definitely. There's too much to grasp in one reading. I got it from the library but I'm going to buy a copy.

I almost got it confused with other books with similar titles, but I got the right one. 😁
