So many people running whataboutism interference for the apartheid regime in this thread 🤦
We get it! Nobody sane is saying that the atrocities of Hamas are excusable! That doesn’t free the Israeli government from responsibility for their decades of oppression, genocide and systematic displacement of the Palestinian people, though.
I have seen many people say that terrorism from Hamas is excusable due to the actions of the Israeli government. Obviously the Israeli government has done many things they absolutely should not have, but that does not excuse terrorism like many people on Lemmy have said.

Correction: a tiny minority of the most deranged tankies. I specified nobody SANE.
excuse terrorism like many people on Lemmy have said.
Same tiny minority of tankies. There’s a lot of tankies here but even amongst them, the condemnation of Hamas’ actions is near-universal.
The same isn’t the case with supporters of the Israeli government. They are wont to say "Israel has a right to defend itself " as if decades of oppression, genocide and displacement coupled with extremely disproportionate responses are just necessary self defense 🤦
So I guess that would make all Americans fascists from 2017 to 2019 at the earliest? 🙄
Newsflash: there’s absolutely no proof that Hamas enjoy majority support, let alone the universal support you seem to assume. If they did, they’d probably have had an election much more recently.
Their argument is terrible, but it would actually apply better to Americans than Gazans, because at least Americans have some freedom of travel. (Of course, most couldn’t just emigrate to Canada or Mexico due to many issues, the biggest of which is money, but they wouldn’t be held back by the USA because they were never granted a birth certificate, for example.)
I can’t watch the video right now, but this isn’t just about 14 and 15 year olds working, is it? I’m assuming there’s more, like going over their maximum hours?
t 14 and 15 year olds working, is it? I’m assuming there’s more, like going over their maximum hours?
Yeah. Long hours, dangerous work, and connections are made to the greater economic crisis and fall of the American middle class with a call to action for a general strike.
Ah, yeah I’ve seen similar hours shit before. Usually it’s an idiot manager or owner who doesn’t believe the worker when the law is brought up, or doesn’t care and thinks they can skirt around it.
Had a supervisor once at a huge hotel chain who got chewed out by the building manager (a few levels up) because he was putting the company at risk of legal action. Not because the kids were being taken advantage of, of course. But because the action was threatening their profit.
You’d be surprised by the number of people who think water can’t be wet because actually clouds are made of water and those clouds look like cotton candy and cotton candy is dry.
I can understand the argument that a liquid can't be wet by a technicality. But the argument with clouds is something I haven't heard before but is one of the stupidest arguments. Especially since most of us have experienced mist before and that certainly feels wet/moist.
Steal from a corporation?! Unlikely. I’m guessing he stole them from his neighbor’s kid or something. Or his own. (Does he have kids? I don’t even really care to find out.)
I don’t think people watch these before they upvote or downvote them. By the way, I ended up subscribing to this YouTube channel and all of their videos are pretty consistently good actually.
I like Chris Hayes’ take as clipped in this video 43 minutes in:
The way that so many prominent voices have focused so exclusively on colleges feels honestly a bit decadent to me. Like we’re doing a paper doll version of conflict because the actual reality of what’s happening in Gaza is so horrific, unceasing, and high-stakes, it’s more enjoyable to argue about what college kids are doing than to confront the human misery and destruction that’s happening in the actual conflict that is, of course, the source of these protests. What seems to be most worth debating isn’t campus speech but whether the US government should contine to fund and support an Israeli war in Gaza that has pushed more than a million people to the brink of famine. A war that has damaged half of the buildings in Gaza. A war that has failed to bring home most of the hostages held by Hamas, that has in fact lead to the death of some those hostages.
This is a good video, thanks.
I’m not all onboard with the conclusions: “YouTube & TikTok good” (I believe they’re overall bad. Fund Peertube.) and “Socialist sentiment is growing” (I believe the overton window has been slipping & skipping to the right for decades now.)
Cenk is a capitalist, they previously employed two people who are now essentially full blown out of the closet fascists, and Cenk’s own nephew most recently caught controversy for telling a Houthi pirate how hot he is.
I don’t consider the trafficking of women and children to be left wing. Perhaps you might, if this comment is in reference to the Hoithi pirates, but I don’t.
I don't care he is a capitalist but I have been always wary of him given his history and recently there have been some things which makes me distrust him personally. Don't get me wrong though. TYT has had some good stuff.
Imagine being a Trump supporter just because that’s who your team picked and you don’t want to vote for a democrat so you’re just going with it. Then you look around the proverbial room and see these people all around you. If you’re one of those people and frequently feel like maybe you’re the smartest one in the room, perhaps you should start considering whether you’re standing in the right room. I mean, you should’ve considered this a while ago, but still, this would be a good opportunity. There might still be a few out there, who knows. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
I’m sure Trump is so secure in his diaper wearing that he truly feels supported, and not at all humiliated, by this gesture. What I’d give to be a fly on the wall when Putin brings this up during their next chat.
