Secret RCMP report warns Canadians may revolt once they realize how broke they are

Reading things like this makes it make sense as to why the government is putting big efforts into reducing legal gun ownership (and the type of guns targeted, ex. 50 cal rifles) instead of going after criminals and makes sense of things like the Online Harms Bill… The elites are trying to prevent a repeat of 1789 France or 1917 Russia.

torontosun.com/…/pipsqueak-promotion-cheapens-shu…

Pipsqueak is one of the Conservative Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Like the Biblical Horsemen, everything he says and does is bad. Everything that is good that he touches withers and dies.

Pipsqueak, who Harper actually named minister of state for democratic reform, is in fact one of the most despicable, loathsome politicians to ever grace the national stage. He is a pestilence made flesh.

A refresher: Pipsqueak is the Conservative MP who famously joked about “tar babies” in the House of Commons, a derogatory term to describe blacks. He is the MP who attacked Harper for compensating aboriginal residential schools victims, opining that what those lazy natives needed was “hard work.” He is the MP who told his fellow MPs “f— you guys,” and then later said he would “confiscate” the tape of the occasion.

He is the Conservative MP who can always be counted upon to do the bidding of the adolescents in PMO. He is the MP who even big-C Conservative commentators, like the Ottawa Citizen’s Randy Denley, say is the poster child of “red-necked bigots” in his Nepean-Carleton riding. Ouch.

There is more, much more, but you get the point. Pipsqueak Pierre Poilievre is a disgrace to Parliament. He is a joke. And whatever Harper may have accomplished with his shuffle was unalterably diminished by the promotion of Pipsqueak.

I guess everyone gets a turn eventually when the talent pool is that shallow.

tHe ELiteS 🙄

In addition to worsening living standards, the RCMP also warns of a future increasingly defined by unpredictable weather and seasonal catastrophes, such as wildfires and flooding.

Well at least they’re recognizing climate change.

The RCMP report looks legitimate when you view it in that tiny little iFrame at the bottom of the article. Interestingly though, if you try to view it full-screen it takes you to the website Scribd, where it was hosted, which says it has been removed.

I also don’t see it on Matt Malone’s website (the person the article says made the ATIP request), Open By Default, where there is a searchable index of ATIP requests and results.

theijf.org/open-by-default/search?q=whole+of+gove…

The ID number on the report doesn’t even match the formatting of ID numbers for ATIP requests.

NatPo ID: A0013001_6

Random ID from Open By Default: A-2023-09971

I won’t say it’s for sure fake, it looks very real and would have taken some effort to put together, but there’s no corroborating evidence of this report existing outside of this NatPo opinion piece

why the government is putting big efforts into reducing legal gun ownership (and the type of guns targeted, ex. 50 cal rifles

Wasn’t this because people overwhelmingly supported stricter gun laws and buyback programmes?

Not to mention:

The RCMP report authors warn that whatever Canada’s current situation, it “will probably deteriorate further in the next five years.”

So you mean with climate change getting extremely bad, end-stage capitalism, and the worst housing situation we’ve ever seen, people are angry? No, it’s the Federal Liberals banning 50 cal rifles that people are angry about!

What an embarrassing article.

northmaple1984,

The funny thing about the polls on guns is polls that have asked about the respondents knowledge indicate that the more educated one is about our gun laws, the less likely they are to support bans. Much of the ban support is being generated by anti-gun propaganda where a lack of understanding of how our actual system works exists.

Enkers,

Perfect example of how correlation does not imply causation. If you take a second to think about what you’ve written, it should be quite obvious that the people who are buying guns, and thus don’t support stricter regulation, also tend to educate themselves more about gun laws. It seems you’ve reversed cause and effect.

The funny thing about the polls on guns is polls that have asked about the respondents knowledge indicate that the more educated one is about our gun laws, the less likely they are to support bans.

This is a huge strawman. You can’t just say “of the 20 people I’ve spoken with, trust me, the more they own know about firearms, the less they want bans!”

I have my PAL and I think we should ban just about everything that isn’t a shotgun or hunting rifle. 78% of Canadians don’t even own a firearm, I get it’s your fun hobby, but you’re not playing with toy trains, you’re using things designed to kill people. I straight up don’t trust the average person to not kill people with it, and I’m not in the minority there.

villasv, (edited )

the more educated one is about our gun laws, the less likely they are to support bans

(X) doubt

The more respondents self reported as educated, the less likely they are to support bans. Meaning, respondents thinking they are educated in gun laws. Same would happen if you interviewed folks on vaccines and trusted them because “they’re doing their own research”. But are these people really educated on longitudinal studies about the effects of gun laws? Or are they educated in the sense of knowing what the Canadian laws are?

AstralPath,

“The elites…”

This isn’t an article, it’s an opinion piece. Why didn’t they (National Post) put this out as an article if it isn’t just more of their FUD pushing conservative talking points?

There’s no info on when the RCMP paper was written, what the agenda is, who wrote it, or how it was discovered to make the ATIP request. It’s just a lot of opinion on the economy.

And then OP makes it about guns. <eye roll> If you’re going to add commentary at least put it in the comments so it can be voted on separately.

JohnnyCanuck,
@JohnnyCanuck@lemmy.ca avatar

Also, National Post is garbage. They’re doing something in the code on the page which makes it stutter as I’m scrolling through.

I just saw the whole bit on conspiracy theories and it made me chuckle at OP’s guns comments.

owen,

Yeah it’s violence now

healthetank,

I do have to say that I’m entertained by the complaint about the average person’s economic position, which is entirely valid, followed unironically by the statement that if Canada had “merely matched US Growth” over the last 5 yrs, per capita we’d be making $5500 more per year. Per capita earnings mean nothing if 10 guys at the top are claiming all the extra, and the US has not exactly been a system that is in a stable, healthy economic place for the majority of its citizens.

owen, (edited )

Classic “well thought out and reasonable statement” to “wildly unhinged and abusive lie” combo

grte, (edited )

It makes perfect sense they would use that angle. The National Post exists to smuggle the American (specifically Republican) perspective into the Canadian political conversation.

Thrillhouse,

Define elites.

northmaple1984,

The vast majority of federal and provincial politicians, the leaders of companies like SNC, Irving, Loblaws, Bell, Rogers, Telus, Metro, Sobeys. None-exhaustive list of course.

Thrillhouse,

I don’t disagree. I feel the Ntl post is positioning this according to their own narrative and agenda (PostMedia owners are ALSO elites as per that definition).

Their agenda being “Canada has it so bad right now, your only solution is to elect the other guy”

Unsaid:

  • Rather than criticize the capitalist greed that got us here.
  • We wouldn’t you to actually elect politicians who would change the status quo because that would be bad for us, a large corporation who benefits from existing corporate tax policies.
  • And if you elect the same guy the RCMP is already predicting social unrest so we’re going to feed you photos of the Clownvoy to rewrite history to make it seem justified, as opposed to what it actually was - a multi-week frat party for needle-phobics.

I don’t really like the subtle rhetoric of this article.
