When it seemed his investments were going up, he was advised to keep putting in more money, and it appeared his account had grown to over $40,000. But Henry couldn’t take the money out, and it turned out he was scammed out of $12,000.
It’s getting to the point that I have the same degree of sympathy for deepfake AI-gen scam victims as I have for people who fall for scam emails. This has been talked about enough that you should be aware by now. Unless you have dementia, I feel bad that you got taken, but I also blame you for being sloppy. Same as if you had a weak password. You don’t deserve to be robbed, but you didn’t protect yourself either.
It’s surprising that more of these people haven’t gotten taken in before by videos of celebrity impersonators hawking dubious stocks or whatever. Or maybe they have, and that’s why they only have the price of a used car to lose to the latest scams.
After reading the fairly uninformative article, it sounds like the deepfake video recommend a platform that looked legit, but was essentially a one way black hole for people’s money. It showed them fake numbers climbing to get them to invest more - not just JT recommending crypto, which is actually kind of a shame.
Buying bitcoin last November (2023) would be one of the best times to buy as it’s basically doubled since.
I remember that scam being top of my yt list for about 4 months. When I saw it was Elon and JT I knew it was a scam as 1) Elon wouldn’t give us access to this advantage and 2) JT is not a grifter like a certain orange individual, this smelled foul from the start. I would also be surprised to see PP in something like this as he and JT both like their cash for access dinners. Now this DOES fall squarely on YT for not vetting their ads and protecting their viewers. What would happen to CBC, CTV, or any other network that aired ads like this? No one who is wealthy is going to help us plebs get to their level, that should be all you need to spot a scam.
