KISSmyOS,

Maybe we should measure global warming not in degrees Celcius but in other units to make the public understand the scope.
The heat energy added to the oceans equals about 20 million Hiroshima bombs - per year.

Xenxs,

Is that an accurate calculation? It seems like an insane amount, do you have a link to a paper or article? I’d love to share that with family and friends, many of them don’t see the problem with an extra degree or 2 …

KISSmyOS, (edited )

I got the yield range of the Hiroshima bomb from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_weapon_yield and used 60 TJ as a middle estimate.
I got the increase in Ocean Heat Content between 2020 and 2021 from here: link.springer.com/article/…/s00376-022-1461-3 and used 14 ZJ as a middle estimate.

Then I divided one by the other and rounded down to the nearest 10 million Hiroshima bombs, cause who cares about a couple million of those here and there?

Nothing will change until we start executing or incarcerating CEOS & politicians for ecocide.

DTFpanda,

Most in power simply do not care.

Senseless,

As long as there’s money to be made nothing will change.
