Ever since I saw in the forecast that today was going to be a high wind day, I had planned on trying to fly my cheap surplus store kite.
It wasn't that successful (this is as high as it got and only for less than a minute) but it was fun and a good way to forget my stress for a moment. #CAwx

NWS Los Angeles: "Dense fog is developing early this morn across #SantaBarbara and the #VenturaCounty coast. Slow down! Allow for more time to reach your destination. If you have a flight @sbairport, check the latest flight arrivals/departures. " #CAwx
Hmm, wonder how many heat exposure incidents there will be at Coachella this weekend... very high risk of 100F temperatures per NWS San Diego. #Coachella#PalmSprings#India#heatwave#CAwx
#ForkedMeadow#California received about 4" of ice pellets and snow overnight although it's a bit hard to tell with certainty because the ground was warm at the start so much of the early precipitation did not stay frozen.
The overnight low was 19f and it's currently 26f.
There will be heavy thunderstorms today which would cause more snow for the meadows. It will be interesting to see just how much we get.
#BikeTooter achievement unlocked. This cyclist went to the market. This cyclist did not stay home. This cyclist bought arugula and butter. This cyclist put it on the new rack and pedaled (wee! wee! wee!) uphill all the way home.
Hmm. Offshore, but moving fast, LOL. Tough call. (Update: rain intensifying and moving fast, and drizzly here, so punting on the cycling to the library... no interest in cycling with bad drivers with bad windshield wipers, or dealing with intense downpours with wind, LOL) #rain#CAwx
INSTAAR's Mountain Hydrology Group has assembled another real-time estimate of snow water equivalent (SWE) for basins in the Sierra Nevada. The April 8th data show 90-138% of average (2001-2021).
It's currently 24f and there's about 2 ft of new snow on the ground since yesterday at #ForkedMeadow#California which absolutely outstanding for the water year.
This is a relatively late and cold storm for the central #SierraNevada where for the last decade or so the snow usually has let up by April. But things aren't normal with the weather anymore in the #Sierras and the mountains are having odd weather just like everywhere else 😬
