Haven't seen anyone of outside of Japan review this elegant beast of a connected pour over brewer (with, by the way, a built in TDS meter!!) so... we're reviewing it on CoffeeGeek. The Melitta Senz V Connected Pour Over Brewer. Some things to love, some things to be very frustrated about. Coming in early January on CoffeeGeek.

Lionesslady,

@coffeegeek @coffee.... I mean, okay, but why? is my first reaction to this. I use a simple put-on-top-of-the-cup pour over and am electric kettle and this seems... overly elaborate. I look forward to the review explaining more. 😁

gpollara,

@Lionesslady @coffeegeek @coffee I thought exactly the same. Putting the filter directly on the cup also provides insulation, keeping coffee warm during the pour over.

Will be interested to hear re the theoretical pros of this device... (other than looking cool!)

The point of brewing stands in general seems to be that you can measure the output mass directly.

With that said, the rule of thumb that grinds absorb 2× their weight in water is close enough that I don't feel I should bother.

I see, that's interesting. Personally, though precision is good, after a while I reach my own balance on grind and water that just works for me, by eye. May not be perfect, but fast enough to be practical and still tasty! ☕

@Lionesslady @coffee Stuff going on, as to "why":

  • has a built in TDS meter, providing real time output on the scale at the bottom. Whether it's accurate or not is another question
  • does a steep before flow starts (around 175ml).
  • Guides you on how much water to use based on a ratio you select.
  • Has an app, which measures flowrates etc.
  • Scale measures in several areas (incl. how much coffee added, final brew weight, etc.
Lionesslady,

@coffeegeek @coffee huh. Okay. Thank you for explaining!
