My latest batch of handmade paper is done. There's one sheet on the left that has not been pressed, and a stack on the right that has been pressed and has a very smooth surface. (Ready for more relief prints!)
Anyone want to share their opinions on #SewingMachines? I may be interested in buying a new one. I have a 20 yr old Janome that is so loud I can't use it when anyone is home because they complain. It's also cranky & I could never get it to make good stitches consistently. I want to make my own clothing & since this is probably a passing fancy, I'd like to not pay an arm & a leg for it. (Maybe a second hand deal?) I don't mind an older machine and I don't want anything computer-y. #craft#sewing
Does anyone know any businesses in the Ventura County or San Fernando Valley areas which offer custom wood CRC work? Where I can just send them a file and get it machined?
Everywhere seems like they offer metal only even though I'd expect wood to be easier to work with. And I want to make them ~2ft which is a bit too big for the LA library maker space I think.
We Need to Talk More About Conformance, If We Want to Stop Fantasy HTML:
Conformant and valid HTML is the exception on websites and in apps, even though valid output is a sign of professional web development. Given how rarely the topic is being discussed these days, we benefit from raising more awareness for HTML conformance and validation.
By sewing the third layer of leaves so that the leaves stand upward a little, I was able to give the pillow some more shape, and it all fits together much more nicely. There are still gaps between the leaves, which I hope won't make the whole pillow too fragile. But the changed geometry definitely reduced the gaps!
I was having a bit of a clear out and found one of Littlest’s jumpers that I’d kept for a memory box.
I thought “You know what? I could crochet a bear and have it wear the jumper. Wouldn’t that be cute?”
Let me tell you that no, it would not be “cute”. It would be a human child sized rat-bear that looks like it should be in Coraline. I know this because it lives with us now.
Inner leaves of the succulent pillow - done!
there are two more layers of leaves to sew together, and then add a backing. As I add the layers and it gets more three-dimensional, the work gets more complicated!
#HitchinHackspace open evening is on Monday evening.
We will be open from 19:30 until 22:00 to give folks who may be interested in what we do, and what facilities we can provide, a chance to come and have a look round and meet some of our members.
All are welcome. If you have ever wondered what we did to convert a derelict toilet into a hackspace, or what a "hackspace" is for that matter, come and have a look around.
If you like to create, make or craft things why not pay us a visit?
We have tools and equipment that cover a wide range of hobbies, crafts and technologies: woodwork, metalwork, electronics, laser cutting, vinyl cutting, sewing, 3D printing.....
Free tea, coffee and a biscuit or two. #Hitchin#Letchworth#Stevenage#Baldock#NorthHerts#hackspace#NorthHertsMakers #make#craft#invent#learn
Back to the succulent pillow project - time to sew all the pieces together! I'm figuring it out as I go along, as this is my first time sewing crochet, and the pattern I'm using doesn't really have any guidance.
Folk might be interested to know that across the month of May, Sustainable Fashion Week’s #MendItMay campaign invites people to mend one piece of clothing, celebrating repair as an act of empowerment.
I think I'll have a go at my #mending pile. If anyone wants to share mending projects or #craft pics, that'd be lovely.
The stats for why #repair is great are pretty compelling:
It’s out: “Upgrade Your HTML V” is available now! 👏
Thanks and kudos @5t3ph (foreword and review), @zcorpan (reviews), and Martha Martins (editing) for their help making this a worthy new part of the HTML craft and minimalism ebook series!
The great 2024 #decluttering has turned up this. It’s a washable colouring in map thingy. I’m very tempted to turn it into a small quilt. Maybe with flags around the outside as a border? Could maybe colour in the critters with embroidery? 🤔
