lisko, in Roblox is ready to grow up
@lisko@sopuli.xyz avatar

Has anyone ever played this? I have seen coverage of it in online news and it doesn’t even look like an interesting game.

alyaza,
@alyaza@beehaw.org avatar

roblox is literally one of the most popular multiplayer games currently on the market and probably has like 95% brand recognition among people under 13 so yes, a lot of people play roblox.

Viva la Speccy. Also had a play on an Acorn once, pretty flash at the time.

Jake_Farm, in UK CMA blocks the Microsoft takeover of Activision
@Jake_Farm@sopuli.xyz avatar

I'm surprised the UK has any jurisdiction over two American companies.

the sheer size of the deal means it's subject to a lot of regulatory scrutiny, as summarized on wikipedia. microsoft plans to appeal this but given that neither the EU nor FTC seem interested in letting it happen either, we seem to be headed toward a scenario where litigation kills the deal entirely

anji,

The country can impose fines or block products from being sold in their domain if a company goes against these kinds of rulings. Same with other countries and the EU, that's why companies ask for permission.

After Brexit they must lost a lot of leverage however. Makes me wonder when the first company will consider the potential loss of UK sales as less than the benefit of whatever deal they're making.

@QuentinCallaghan honestly pretty vile vibes from this one; bodycam murder simulator is at the very least politically tonedeaf and at worst actively malicious.

QuentinCallaghan,
@QuentinCallaghan@sopuli.xyz avatar

But isn't that the rehashed argument that Jack Thompson, Dave Grossman & co. made about video games causing violence?

dreamLogic, in Sony confirms more PC ports are coming, because it's making a ton of money

As a long time Sony gamer but convert to PC gamer, I welcome this. I'm not sure I'm even going to get a PS5 anymore.

Hopefully not as disastrous at the recent Last of Us port though.

Hirom, in Modder wires ChatGPT into Skyrim VR so NPCs can roleplay and remember past conversations

Might make video games cheaper to produce too. No more script to write for all these NPCs.

Helix, in Why I Miss Forums, and Despise Discord/Matrix/Element

I also dislike Discord mainly because it's all either walled gardens or information silos.

It's especially bad when you have Open Source Software doing stuff on Discord. If devs lose interest, all the documentation is gone.

jherazob,

The average Dev absolutely sucks at documentation from the start, this makes it worse

Helix,

exactly.

noodlejetski, (edited )

it's really annoying. for people gaming on Linux systems there's this genius project called ProtonGE, a customized version of Valve's Proton that lets you played Windows games with some additional enhancements over Valve's version. there's a Github page that hosts the code and releases, but the readme file says that if you have any issues, you have to contact the developer on Discord. like... why? the issue tracker is literally right there, viewable for everyone without having to create an account. how's a glorified instant messenger better at tracking issues than the interface that's been specifically made for that purpose?!

Helix,

and the funniest part is: you could just bridge the issue tracker into Discord and get notified there.

noodlejetski, in Why I Miss Forums, and Despise Discord/Matrix/Element

I just cannot understand why so many projects decide to make it the main means of communicating with users and providing tech support.

thursday_j,

Especially when it's open source projects bc they should use element!

Helix,

they can use Discord to coordinate programming, but they should use a public issue tracker to communicate issues and solutions.

anji, in Modder wires ChatGPT into Skyrim VR so NPCs can roleplay and remember past conversations

I asked ChatGPT to complete "I used to be an adventurer like you, then" a few times. Some actual answers:

  • I used to be an adventurer like you, then I realized that the real adventure was the friends we made along the way.
  • I used to be an adventurer like you, then I decided to retire and settle down. It's amazing how peaceful life can be without constantly facing danger and uncertainty.
  • I used to be an adventurer like you, then I discovered that true fulfillment comes not from seeking out external thrills, but from cultivating inner peace and contentment. Now I find joy in the simple things, like spending time with loved ones and pursuing meaningful hobbies.

Sounds like it would be an interesting experience...

noodlejetski,

...they all sound like LinkedIn posts.

anji,

I know, I expect it to be hilarious. Can't wait to overhear the Bandit Leader talk to his underlings about Soft Skills and Industry Trends.

SoupGod228, in Modder wires ChatGPT into Skyrim VR so NPCs can roleplay and remember past conversations

I'm simply overwhelmed by all the servers and channels on Discord.

I like 18xx board games. I know of seven Discord servers that deal with them, but each has a dozen or two channels for topics I don't care about. If I want to find something, I have to do separate searches in each server. Plus I have to scroll through and mute all the extra channels in each server, which takes way too much effort on mobile.
