Saw this question on !asklemmy and I wanted to throw it over here. Feel like with horror this may end up being more about film making than changes in sensibilities.
It seems like indie horror is in a golden age. I think the genre has the advantage of being able to be highly effective with much less complexity and time required....

Was originally curious about summer specific horror movies but realized there was no reason to limit the discussion. For my example I have yet to see a movie that even comes close to Midsommar in terms of summer-y vibes.
