Finally managed to get my hands on an Electric Daisy!! Probably one of the coolest #edibleplants out there.
"The flower bud has a grassy taste followed by a strong tingling or numbing sensation and often excessive salivation, with a cooling sensation in the throat. The buds are known as "buzz buttons", "Sichuan buttons", "sansho buttons", and "electric buttons". In India, they are used as flavoring in chewing tobacco."
Good morning! From my heart-shaped cacti! I want to share their picture now, before they change their heart (because they do, as they grow— like people, you know 😍). 💚💟 @plants@houseplants
Happy #LaborDay Weekend! My heart-shaped cactus had a baby - and it looks so chubby like a baby should! I must be doing something right as a plant mom, right 😃?@houseplants@plants
@gewalker@plants@houseplants It depends on the transplant, and what they're being transplanted into! Most standard potting mixes have nutrients added and the bag will tell you how long that's meant to last for.
Tradescantias in particular are not very nutrient demanding. So I tend to just wait until they start looking hungry with slowed growth or yellowing between veins. I've found they suffer more if I accidentally overfeed them by sticking to a strict schedule.
Do they really just offer up bits of themselves pre rooted like that? That’s very obliging!
I would love home him but my house is completely wrong for them (nowhere near enough light, nom-happy cats, I’m a zz raven on a high shelf kind of plant purchaser now)
@seryndippyt@plants@houseplants They really do! In the wild they crawl along the ground attaching wherever they touch, so they're very flexible about where roots grow 😁
Welcome new mastodon people! I've never actually done an #introduction so here I go.
I'm the International Cultivar Registration Authority for the #Tradescantia genus, which means I research the correct names of all tradescantia cultivars in the world.
I have a living collection of tradescantias and other Commelinaceae plants which I study, and sell cuttings to fund my research.
@TradescantiaHub@plants@houseplants my wife works for a landscaping company that grows 3 different andersoniana cultivars - Sweet Kate, Concord Grape, and Amethyst Kiss. Would you be interested in one of each for your collection?
