PoastRotato, in "〇〇だったば、...." is this legitimate?
@PoastRotato@lemmy.world avatar

I think you’re looking for だったら

Camilo,

This form varies depending on what the “condition” is in the sentence. It is slightly different for i-adjectives, na-adjectives, nouns and verbs.

Rentlar, in "〇〇だったば、...." is this legitimate?

I’d use だったなら instead.

feedum_sneedson, in My mom has this souvenir from Japan and doesnt remember which side is up... 🤦

It’s definitely the right way up.

nicerdicer2, in My mom has this souvenir from Japan and doesnt remember which side is up... 🤦

I think the photo shows the picture in the correct direction. If not, well, it happens to the best…

PotatoesFall,

Loool I will use this the next time I want to bash abstract art

CluckN, in My mom has this souvenir from Japan and doesnt remember which side is up... 🤦

Flip it this is the wrong side of the page

PotatoesFall,

lmao

parpol, in My mom has this souvenir from Japan and doesnt remember which side is up... 🤦

I am terrible at reading handwritten kanji, but that red stamp on the signature, however, is without a doubt the right orientation.

Generally when you have “dots” like the ones you see on the top, the thinner side of the brush stroke starts at the top. (道)

PotatoesFall,

Thanks! Is that the same kanji? they look so different.

Raamah,
@Raamah@lemmy.world avatar

My wife is from Osaka, Japan. She read it as that kanji, so I’m trusting her 😆

Edit: This page has an image of the same kanji (Michi) that looks more like the one posted. www.towofu.net/soft/e-kanji.htm

zero_spelled_with_an_ecks,

That’s the one I thought of as well. Additionally, the signature is correct in this orientation.

PotatoesFall,

Oh haha then I’m sure its right!

Klear, in My mom has this souvenir from Japan and doesnt remember which side is up... 🤦

Voting for 90° clockwise to spite that other guy.

PotatoesFall,

you show him.

astraeus,

I voted for the other guy, but now I’m conflicted and just decided to vote for you too even though I know the other guy is technically correct

Klear,

That averages to not rotating it at all, which seems to be correct.

Ageroth, in My mom has this souvenir from Japan and doesnt remember which side is up... 🤦

Can I vote for rotate 90° counter-clockwise? I know it’s objectively wrong, but I also think it looks the nicest.

PotatoesFall,

I’m tempted to tell her this is the answer just for shits and giggles

Pretzilla, in My mom has this souvenir from Japan and doesnt remember which side is up... 🤦

Vote here for upside down

Pretzilla, in My mom has this souvenir from Japan and doesnt remember which side is up... 🤦

Vote here for right side up

turtlepower,

It is definitely right-side up in the pic. I can’t read it, but I can recognize the signature and hanko as being right-side up.

PotatoesFall,

thanks!

Umechan, (edited ) in A mistake I once made: instead of お城(おしろ)I said お尻(おしり)

I was once wondering around a neighborhood in Tokyo and passed by a group of friends who were saying goodbye to each other. I heard one of them say “お疲れヤマ”. I stopped, wondering if it was some strange kind of slang or regional variation, but she then started laughing and said “お疲れマウンテン”.

Pirately, in A mistake I once made: instead of お城(おしろ)I said お尻(おしり)

This hasn’t happend yet, but I’m paranoid I will one day day say 触ってもいいですか when I mean to say 座ってもいいですか.

CanadianCorhen,

触ってもいいですか? とても柔らかくて魅力的に見えます

via google translate.
