There was a period in the first half of the 90s where straightahead/post-bop structures were married (successfully) to very vascular, propulsive rhythm sections, and this is no exception, from 1991:

Herbie Hancock: piano/keys
Wayne Shorter: saxophones
Stanley Clarke: bass
Omar Hakim: drums

@zeruch this was the period I was just getting into live jazz and lineups of this type were catnip for my ears - Crazy People Music era Branford Marsalis Quartet being my specific entry point. It felt very fresh but was clearly directly in the classic jazz lineage I was just learning to appreciate. This lineup holds up wonderfully well, but how could it not with that group of killers?
