He's gorgeous....also a bit of an asshole, even for being a cat

I second this.

The pace at which you release new updates is very impressive. I hope you guys don’t put too much pressure on yourselves and burn out.

But anyways, thank you so much for the effort you pour into Jerboa. It makes using Lemmy a real joy!

dessalines,

All the credit here goes to MV-GH and twizmazn, I haven’t been able to devote hardly any time to jerboa.

fishbulb95,

The wonders of open source.

khaosoi, in Any chance of putting this on F-droid?
@khaosoi@discuss.tchncs.de avatar

If by “this” you mean the jerboa app, it is on F-Droid. Both in the official repo and on Izzy’s.

Elegast, in Dismissing already seen content ? A proposal (put user back in control of algorithmic content discovery and more)

It's so close to being what I need.

Right now you can hide read posts.

I just need it to hide on scroll past and a quick way to toggle read.

Also not hide my own posts at least under profile when I have hide read on.

Then it would be perfect for how I'd use it.

burgersc12,

This is exactly what I'm waiting for, Joey spoiled me over the years, so smooth at removing posts I'd already scrolled past

Elegast,

God joey is the best damn app ever. There hasn't really been much talk from the dev apparently, but hopefully someone comes up with an elegant solution.

interdimensionalmeme,

The problem with hide past by scroll is, every post you see, you have to interact with it or what it disappears forever.

I find that tedious and distracting sometimes I might not reject something right now, but maybe I don't want to interact it right now.

Maybe if I scroll past two or three times without interaction, then yes, it shouldn't show it again. Maybe even have a display of how many scroll past are left before it disappears forever. If I see a zero, and still feel I might want to see it some day, then I'll take action.

Jojo-Mcfrost572, in it has become second nature to open Jerboa instead of Infinity and I love that
Jojo-Mcfrost572 avatar

I'd use jerboa but it just crashes all the time. Hangs, deletes comments and just isn't up to scratch yet. So far tildes and kbin have been best die me. I jump around on all the Lemmy's but can't get my head around how to follow some subs.

Just trying to recreate my reddit feeds.

OsrsNeedsF2P,

The issue isn't Jerboa but rather the server you're on is dying from too many users. Next Lemmy version (which hopefully will come out before the end of the month) is expected to fix a lot of problems

Jojo-Mcfrost572,
Jojo-Mcfrost572 avatar

Looking forward to it. I'm on different Lemmy's though. Is that right ?

OsrsNeedsF2P,

Yup, all the Lemmy servers use the same version (minus some semantics). If you played Minecraft before, you can imagine it like that - Mojang (people behind Minecraft) release a new version, and all the servers update to it

Jojo-Mcfrost572,
Jojo-Mcfrost572 avatar

Unfortunately never played it. I do.not understand the instances and different Lemmy's. Makes sense they all use the server. Probably would be good idea to have them separated as we know centralized can be corrupted.

I use kbin as well. Does that pull from Lemmy ? Kbin and Lemmy world seem to work far better than the jerboa app. I'm just pinging around them. Have tried tildes too but it's invite only.

nick_99,

Go make an account on sh.itjust.works. It's been pretty reliable with no issues for me.

goat,

good community too :3

nick_99,

I second this :-)

PorkTaco,

Same. Been pretty solid so far.

nick_99,

Agreed. I'm very happy. And the cool domain name is funny.

Th4tGuyII, in any way to switch from lemmy.ml to lemmy.world or Kbin or Beehaw?
Th4tGuyII avatar

As far as I'm aware, the instance or platform you register in is the one you get as your hub, even if they are federated together with others.

I don't know if you can migrate your account between instances, but my recommendation might just be to register a new account with the instance you want to be your "home" instance.

McBinary, in any way to switch from lemmy.ml to lemmy.world or Kbin or Beehaw?

There will likely eventually be a way to migrate your account just like mastodon, however kbin is a different platform altogether and you would need a new account there.

dessalines, in I'm currently using the playstore version, should I be using the fdroid version?

The f-droid version, or even better, adding the izzyondroid repo to f-droid to get faster updates, is much preferred over the playstore version.

Also very nice keety.

SturgiesYrFase,
@SturgiesYrFase@lemmy.ml avatar

Cool, I'll add that repo! He's a butthead.....

SyJ,

Whats the reason for it being preferred to play store? Is it the actual apk different?

SturgiesYrFase,
@SturgiesYrFase@lemmy.ml avatar

Probably gets updated sooner/more often

wasabi,

Why exactly is the izzyondroid repo preferred?

sarsaparilyptus,

F-Droid can sometimes take forever and a day to approve new versions

randromeda,

I'm a bit new to FOSS. If I've downloaded the Jerboa app from f-droid after adding the izzyondroid repo, do I still get updates from f-droid or is there more to the process?

dessalines,

You're all good. The izzyondroid repo will likely get updates before anything else.

NoTime,

How can you download it from F-Droid? I have the IzzyOnDroid F-Droid repository added and the latest Jerboa is 0.0.31 released 2nd June.

noodlejetski,

update the repos

trollblox_,

I have mine set to update every hour and still no update. I also added izzyondroid repo as recommended in another comment, still no update.

Nice update, really like the blacked out theme...thank you👍🏻

Sewot, in Jerboa v0.0.32-alpha

These changes look very promising, especially the comment collapsing change. Keep up the good work, all contributors!

dessalines,

Its been a stressful week for us lemmy devs, but I can say that getting more contributors to jerboa and lemmy-ui have been hugely helpful. Between lemmy and my other projects, I haven't been able to dedicate the time jerboa deserves, so I'm really grateful.

myself33,

very usefull app : for me, it's a game changer for lemmy popularity

dessalines,

Thanks! I wrote it because I also became convinced, that having a decent mobile app was severely limiting our potential.

myself33, (edited )

i wrote an open-source software and i know how difficult it is to develop something for open-source ( no money, people complaining...) If you are short in money like me, Give encouragement is the minimum users can do

Mac,

Hi there! Just want to say that i appreciate the work you are up to. The app (0.0.29) works well and I'm legitimately enjoying my time using it.

dessalines,

Thanks! Glad you're liking it.

a1studmuffin,

Now it's in and I'm using it, I'm wondering if it would be better if tapping a comment would only collapse the children of that comment instead. This might prevent user frustration if they try and click a link in a comment but miss, so the comment closes instead.

Sewot,

This please, that would be just like my go to Reddit app, Relay, did it!

a1studmuffin,

Yeah BaconReader does the same, I think it makes sense. I'll try and fix that for the next release.

awdsns,

@a1studmuffin I know I have no right to ask this as I'm in no position to contribute myself atm, but please make it a long press or add on option to configure the behavior (like Boost). I already find myself fat-fingering the wrong UI action a lot, and this new collapsing behavior doesn't help.

a1studmuffin,

Yeah after some discussion on GitHub this is the direction the app is headed in, and the next update should have some settings in this regard with Boost-like behaviour as a user option. We can add more options if the community are split on their preferences. The joy of open source!

awdsns,

Thanks, that's great to hear!

wander1236, (edited ) in Does jerboa change all links to https, or is that an instance feature?
@wander1236@sh.itjust.works avatar

It looks like Jerboa is forcing HTTPS. It’s using the Markwon library for parsing markdown, and a custom ForceHttpsPlugin is installed: github.com/LemmyNet/jerboa/…/MarkdownHelper.kt#L9….

randomsnark, (edited )

Aha, thanks! I guess that concludes this thread, as I don’t really expect to get a dev chiming in explaining why.

It’s not my preferred way of handling it but I don’t have the energy to make a fuss. I guess if I click a link that needs to be http, I’ll copy it to a browser, and if I post one I’ll remind others to do the same. Probably won’t come up often enough to care about.

At least you’ve satisfied my curiosity as to what was going on 😀

Edit: I was repeatedly told while trying to post this comment that the request timeout had expired. When the error stopped appearing, I had posted 4 copies of this message. I have deleted them but I apologize if they still spam your inbox as [deleted] or something.

testEmailVerified,

Jerboa forces HTTPS for images (Markwon plugin) because android doesn’t allow to load http due to cleartext. I can disable this for older Android version but not in newer Android. There is a good reason for this as its much less secure. So instead I chose to rewrite http to https for links in markwon

developer.android.com/…/cleartext

testEmailVerified,

Actually Jerboa rewrites all http links to https. Originally it was because of cleartext, it wouldn’t load http images. But then I decided all links should be rewritten to http for security. If it might be too troubling I could change this but imo all sites should support https
