God joey is the best damn app ever. There hasn't really been much talk from the dev apparently, but hopefully someone comes up with an elegant solution.
The problem with hide past by scroll is, every post you see, you have to interact with it or what it disappears forever.
I find that tedious and distracting sometimes I might not reject something right now, but maybe I don't want to interact it right now.
Maybe if I scroll past two or three times without interaction, then yes, it shouldn't show it again. Maybe even have a display of how many scroll past are left before it disappears forever. If I see a zero, and still feel I might want to see it some day, then I'll take action.
I'd use jerboa but it just crashes all the time. Hangs, deletes comments and just isn't up to scratch yet. So far tildes and kbin have been best die me. I jump around on all the Lemmy's but can't get my head around how to follow some subs.
The issue isn't Jerboa but rather the server you're on is dying from too many users. Next Lemmy version (which hopefully will come out before the end of the month) is expected to fix a lot of problems
Yup, all the Lemmy servers use the same version (minus some semantics). If you played Minecraft before, you can imagine it like that - Mojang (people behind Minecraft) release a new version, and all the servers update to it
Unfortunately never played it. I do.not understand the instances and different Lemmy's. Makes sense they all use the server. Probably would be good idea to have them separated as we know centralized can be corrupted.
I use kbin as well. Does that pull from Lemmy ? Kbin and Lemmy world seem to work far better than the jerboa app. I'm just pinging around them. Have tried tildes too but it's invite only.
As far as I'm aware, the instance or platform you register in is the one you get as your hub, even if they are federated together with others.
I don't know if you can migrate your account between instances, but my recommendation might just be to register a new account with the instance you want to be your "home" instance.
There will likely eventually be a way to migrate your account just like mastodon, however kbin is a different platform altogether and you would need a new account there.
I'm a bit new to FOSS. If I've downloaded the Jerboa app from f-droid after adding the izzyondroid repo, do I still get updates from f-droid or is there more to the process?
Its been a stressful week for us lemmy devs, but I can say that getting more contributors to jerboa and lemmy-ui have been hugely helpful. Between lemmy and my other projects, I haven't been able to dedicate the time jerboa deserves, so I'm really grateful.
i wrote an open-source software and i know how difficult it is to develop something for open-source ( no money, people complaining...) If you are short in money like me, Give encouragement is the minimum users can do
Now it's in and I'm using it, I'm wondering if it would be better if tapping a comment would only collapse the children of that comment instead. This might prevent user frustration if they try and click a link in a comment but miss, so the comment closes instead.
@a1studmuffin I know I have no right to ask this as I'm in no position to contribute myself atm, but please make it a long press or add on option to configure the behavior (like Boost). I already find myself fat-fingering the wrong UI action a lot, and this new collapsing behavior doesn't help.
Yeah after some discussion on GitHub this is the direction the app is headed in, and the next update should have some settings in this regard with Boost-like behaviour as a user option. We can add more options if the community are split on their preferences. The joy of open source!
Aha, thanks! I guess that concludes this thread, as I don’t really expect to get a dev chiming in explaining why.
It’s not my preferred way of handling it but I don’t have the energy to make a fuss. I guess if I click a link that needs to be http, I’ll copy it to a browser, and if I post one I’ll remind others to do the same. Probably won’t come up often enough to care about.
At least you’ve satisfied my curiosity as to what was going on 😀
Edit: I was repeatedly told while trying to post this comment that the request timeout had expired. When the error stopped appearing, I had posted 4 copies of this message. I have deleted them but I apologize if they still spam your inbox as [deleted] or something.
Jerboa forces HTTPS for images (Markwon plugin) because android doesn’t allow to load http due to cleartext. I can disable this for older Android version but not in newer Android. There is a good reason for this as its much less secure. So instead I chose to rewrite http to https for links in markwon
Actually Jerboa rewrites all http links to https. Originally it was because of cleartext, it wouldn’t load http images. But then I decided all links should be rewritten to http for security. If it might be too troubling I could change this but imo all sites should support https
