You can see who downvoted a post or a comment. How does this translate to other fediverse instances, such as Mastodon?

I'm quite new to the fediverse, and noticed that on kbin you can actually see who downvoted a post or a a comment (and not only your own posts and comments), by clicking on the "activity" button.

My question is, how does this translate to Mastadon? I haven't seen a "reduce" button and was wondering if it is the same as "block" or "mute" on Mastodon?

Mastodon does not have any sort of equivalent.

Thanks! I didn't dare to try the mute or block button on Mastodon yet but thought maybe it is equivalent. Guess not.

QuantumFilament,

Thank you for pointing that out.

I think it's a bad idea to make that information public, as it is almost certainly going to be the cause of arguments, bitterness, drama, and tit-for-tat downvote wars.

I think you are right. I hope this post gets traction so people know that before subjecting themselves to those things.

Maybe a bit of accountability isn't a bad thing though. It might make the downvote more of an actual "this does not contribute" instead of a "I disagree". Unless it's on /m/unpopularopinions! (Did I do that right?) I do like that down votes are significantly less common so far.

I find that on mobile, I'll come across something I've accidentally down voted since the buttons are on the right now! I can't seem to find a list of what I've downvoted, though. I'd like to make sure I cleaned up after my fat right thumb!

QuantumFilament,

I understand where you're coming from. However, I think that ultimately, it will cause more problems than it will solve.

Either people who have been downvoted will start calling out those who downvoted them or they will simply create a grudge list and start downvoting everyone who downvoted them.

While there might be some positive aspects, I think they will be overshadowed by the negative.

Love this conversation, both have interesting opinions and I agree with both. I guess I'm fine with either option and will see how this platform will develop with this system in mind.

Just to answer the "what I've downvoted":

Might be a bug, but when you downvote it appears on your profile in the boost tab. Sadly removing the downbutton does not remove it from the boost section.

You can see that on my profile when I downvoted a bot. Now I have forever a sexting bot on my profile page...

Ahh, very interesting. Definitely wish that was found elsewhere!

Agreed. Awkward.

FWIW I encountered a spam bot that I downvoted a few times until I realized I could block it. I just checked my boost tab, and they're not showing up (probably because I blocked it). So maybe if you block the bot, you'll at least not have to see it when you go look?

Didn't think of that! Thanks for the tip!
