it does feel like the most popular instance being the main developers also adds a lot of stress, but of course I'm not sure there's a great way out of that. Unless I'm wrong, I don't think kbin has a lemmy world-esque instance where a group / team manages it and is used to large scale fediverse instances. I'm only aware of instances with single individuals running it as a hobby. Telling people to go elsewhere is unfair for a number of reasons, no easy way to migrate accounts for the individual, and of course the instance admins may not be expecting to deal with a large user base that they're suddenly responsible of the costs for, not to mention other differences like federation and moderation etc.
