I tried coming out at 18. It didn’t go so well. I told my best friend… who then never spoke to me again. It was embarrassing, we were doing the same training scheme and would bump into each other. He completely ignored me....

Joining the fediverse can be a daunting proposition, and it is understandable that many end up on larger more centralised servers that are easier to find. I have also had some bad experience with smaller servers also. The first one I arrived on was very quiet, almost inactive, and I should have taken that as a warning sign....

Mine happened in the mid '80s, when it was called Gay Pride. I was out to my parents, I had my first boyfriend. We wore T shirts with an inverted pink triangle and joined a march around London until it finished in Hyde Park for a free pop concert with various big bands (Erasure, Tom Robinson et al)....
I didn't come out until I was 26, and it went badly....
Me, I'm going to go to a museum with my bf on their pride weekend and then maybe hit up some gay bars later in the night together :^)
I would've expected blahaj to be queer central but it doesn't seem all that active which makes me sad. I want more rainbow in my life. :c
I abandoned Reddit over the weekend in advance of the blackout. As a trans woman, I tended to keep myself to myself in some very subject specific subreddits and avoided anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment for the most part (although certainly not homophobic language). Not ideal but it was manageable....
