To coincide with the new #Ubuntu release Sam and I have given the blog a bit of a do-up 💅🏻.

Oh yeah, and we FINALLY added dark mode support 🌙 It will "just work" with the dark mode preference on your OS/DE (though not Ubuntu 22.04 LTS, sadly).

Hope you enjoy the changes!

@peterkal Oh, nice. It doesn't on mine - but i'm not using the Firefox snap. That could be why.

    Konqi,

@omgubuntu hello there, I am not a very technically inclined person, I would like to ask: are there any implications or negative impacts on #firefox being distributed as a #snap? For the end user at least, performance or #security. Thank you in advance.

@Konqi If you're using the Firefox Snap on Ubuntu then it is, arguably, more secure than using Firefox from a PPA or repo. There aren't many negative impacts, but some apps (like desktop password managers) don't work with the snap build, but fixes to support those are coming. I use the Firefox snap on my 22.10 and 23.04 installs, but I run 22.04 on an i5 Chromebook using something called Depthboot and it doesn't come with snapd installed hence not using the snap version on that

    Haijo7,

@Konqi @omgubuntu A lot of people dislike snap packages in general. This is because they update automatically, don't always play nicely with themes, take longer to start (especially the first time), add extra output to commands like lsblk, they use a little bit more space than regular packages, there is only one central server for snap packages controlled by one company (canonical) and the server is proprietary. I probably missed a few things.

@Haijo7 @Konqi Yup, Snaps come with "baggage". Flatpaks (via Flathub) are far more popular with users and with software developers. I use about 20 different Flatpak apps, but only 2 snaps…
