In the past couple of days both Pipewire (and with it libcamera) support and hardware video decoding with V4L2-M2M landed for Firefox to work better on Linux smartphones, which development for has started to grow exponentially in the last months. Great news overall for the future of the mobile platform!
PureTryOut, Great news! However as long as Mozilla shows no interest whatsoever in developing a mobile UI, I don't have much hope honestly. The mobile-firefox-config we develop at postmarketOS works fine, but it'll never be as great as an actual mobile UI.
julianh, Oh nice, libcamera support! Hopefully that means I can use the camera on my surface without using a loopback.
bacteriostat, (edited ) While Linux phones seem a distant dream. I think these are the major features that are needed for it to be a suitable daily driver for developers:
- Waydroid - Cause we gotta have android apps.
- Proper 5G/4G/3G Support.
- Availability of more devices that can run Linux.
