Hey Beehaw, whatcha reading right now?
There's a thread about how people find new books, and one of my favorite ways to find things to read was browsing comments from the weekly 'What are you reading' threads in r/truelit and r/books. So what is Lemmy reading?...
Do you reread books or are you done with them once you’ve read them?...
Hey Beehaw (and friends)! What’re you reading?...
Do you buy rent or borrow? Or do you have a subscription of some kind? Do you read physical books or do you read ebooks?
List as many or as few as you like!
I haven’t had any luck in finding sci-fi books recently. I’m looking for a longer story that takes its time to establish the world/universe and the characters living in it. I like the idea of exploring space or futuristic cities/landscapes and being on a journey together with the protagonist. The story doesn’t have to have...
Comment what books have caused you to become distressed, traumatized, or unsettled in any way. Please elaborate as to why.
Any format counts (audiobook, physical book, ebook, graphic novel, article, essay, etc).
I'm still on Goodreads but it's so slow, the app's just an even slower webview of the site and the redesign has made me have to click more to do what I want....
So I have been buying my ebooks from Amazon for many years. I used to even have a Kindle Voyage for a few years (it got destroyed like two years ago, never bothered to replace)....
Obviously, they don't have to slide into the cozy genre. But what books do you cuddle up with during a thunderstorm, or your variable weather of choice? Personally, Becky Chambers has become one of my favorites. I also read LOTR when I need a "good guys doing the right thing just because it's the right thing to do".
Hey Beehaw (and friends)! What’re you reading?...
I'm a huge fan of Peter F. Hamilton myself (original username NorthernLightMountain after all) and figured there ought to be more of us around here!...
Hopefully. Join Bookwyrm!
My personal favorites are steampunk, coming of age, and alternate history. How about you?
Something you thought you would love that turned out to be awful, or vice versa? A great plot twist that blew your mind?...
I want to hear about your favorite books that include heists as a major element. Bonus points if it's set in a fantasy, sci-fi, or non-contemporary setting. (Basically I want something like Gentleman Bastards that's not just rereading Gentleman Bastards)
newest to oldest...
So I've been reading The Wandering Inn, which is amazing btw, but it's started getting a little intense and I want to take a break for a bit. I wanted to read something similar, and I like how serious the author takes the topic. Does anyone have any recommendations? I've already blasted through Hedge Wizard and Arcane Ascension...
tl;dr Books, most likely generated by an LLM, were being sold on Amazon under Jane Friedman’s name. The same books were added to her Goodreads profile. Amazon initially refused to remove the books. If it’s happening to her, it’s definitely happening to other authors.
I'm dragging myself through an "award-winning" "best-selling" "recommended" book I got from the library and wishing I hadn't. (Yes I know those phrases mean little and I can stop, though I'm nearing the end after hoping it would stop being so hopeless. Yes I can be naively optimistic ;) .) The characters and story are all...
Anyone else have some spooky reads lined up for October? My bookclub is reading Frankenstein this month, which will be a nice change of pace from the usual fare. I’ve got Tender is the Flesh, Rouge, and Black Sheep lined up. I will probably get to The Haunting of Hill House as well, which I’m really excited to read! I just...
