💕 Happy Tay Tay Day 💕
Gibsonisafluffybutt, The moon is beautiful tonight
just_kitten, (edited ) That stupid high fps effect on smart TVs ruins almost everything, I hate watching movies at other peoples houses when they leave that setting on…
e: only at my cousins would I watch absolutely brain numbing shit like Let’s Be Cops tho lmao
CEOofmyhouse56, Is lemmy running slow for anyone else?
CEOofmyhouse56, How appetising does that look?
https://aussie.zone/pictrs/image/4d6c261d-8325-4c09-8603-58d059c865c5.jpeg
Don’t worry. I made it pretty

Verdict: Well… you know when you go to a take away or f & c shop and you order the chicken roll because it looks good on the board and you receive something in a plastic sleeve and you go “that’s not fresh!” Yeah it’s like that. Not good. Not bad. Just meh.
Would I get it again? Maybe if it was on the spesh.
useless_modern_god, Now it’s a party.
CEOofmyhouse56, Better believe it.
Seagoon_, Why?
Why does it even exist and why did you eat it?
CEOofmyhouse56, I didn’t create it and I was curious.
MeanElevator, I too two Gaviscon tablets after seeing and redding that
CEOofmyhouse56, I don’t think it’s gone all the way down yet. I’m too scared to bend.
MeanElevator, Take some tactical antacids
Trust me…I’ve been there
CEOofmyhouse56, I’m good for the moment. I shared it so it was only an appetiser. I wasn’t gonna go full deep throat.
Catfish, Who hurt me ?? youtu.be/V-t1t8pYV9Q?si=9gWBXBS_5bivRxDA
CEOofmyhouse56, That’s a great album. Who didn’t dress like Cyndi back in the day?
MeanElevator, Old neighbour spent all his day in the garden and now there’s an ambulance at his place.
His existence irritates the hell out of me, but deep down I hope he’s okay.
useless_modern_god, Not sure about tin fish but here’s a couple of Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches I just made.

Force_majeure123, Imagine if the beef was sardines though 🤤🤤🤤
useless_modern_god, Meet halfway? How bout fried Catfish? Throw in some slaw and fresh chillies?
Force_majeure123, 🤝
CEOofmyhouse56, I’ll trade you one frozen roast chicken roll for one of those.
useless_modern_god, Not a problem Chief. (You can also keep yours for a rainy day)
CEOofmyhouse56, Nawww. I owe you one mate.
MeanElevator, I approve
Catfish, I don’t believe there is a polite expresion for …this
Seagoon_, What is it?
Catfish, 💦
useless_modern_god, Rib eye, onion, Provolone + red cap on a toasted bread roll.
Seagoon_, Sounds good. :)
I’m having chicken vegie curry with rice with nuts
bananafungus, (edited ) Tinned fish/preserved seafood enjoyers of this thread, what’s your favourite place (not colesworth) to get the goods?
Editing this just to elaborate on my request. I’m mostly looking for fancy stuff like Ortiz, Jose Gourmet, Little Tin Co.
Force_majeure123, Getting the fancy stuff in Australia is tough, and costs far too much. You really need to order online honestly. You can go to various markets and most will have a spot to buy from, but yeh you’ll pay too much 🤷♂️
CEOofmyhouse56, Why not colesworth?
I only ever buy Sirena tuna and guess where I get them from?
bananafungus, Was looking for more fancy schmancy stuff.
CEOofmyhouse56, I know someone who can help you. @Force_majeure123 it’s your time to shine mate.
Force_majeure123, Unfortunately not much help. Gotta just order online
Thornburywitch, The Aldi smoked rainbow trout fillets are very nice. I’m not so fond of the truffle oil infused trout fillets, but the plain ones are lovely. I like their plain sardines in oil but these sell out fast. I don’t like the sardies with horrid gloopy sauces that Aldi sells. If I want a gloopy sauce, I’ll make it myself.
Preston market fishmongers have nice smoked cod fillets (not entirely sure it’s really cod but definitely smoked) and I use these quite a lot. I would assume Vic market likewise would have a good range.
Most mediterranean grocers have baccala which is basically baconised white fish. Needs to be soaked to remove excessive salt but once soaked is nice in stirfries and fish pies etc. and just magic in an omelette or a rich tomato/garlic based fish stew (bouillabaise). Nice for pizza topping too.
I do get colesworth plain sardines in oil when I can’t find any at Aldi - they are the cheapest. Also colesworth can be relied on for tinned crab meat (when I can’t be bothered sourcing, cooking and picking fresh crab).
Most IGAs have John West stuff, including kippers, and sometimes other brands. Prices are higher but there’s usually a good range.
NQR occasionally has tinned fish both plain and fancy and this is a good source for stocking up the larder when they have stock in.
If stocking up, I’d start with NQR, and then Preston market, and then Aldi, and then IGA and then, and only then, colesworth.
bananafungus, Thanks for the rec. Probably should’ve worded my post better, was more looking for fancy schmancy stuff.
I’m making up a little gift for someone.
Thornburywitch, Noice! Myer used to sell cute little tins of WA sardies packed with a sprig of lemon myrtle in the tin - super delicious. Maybe Myer or DJs have something similar in their gormet food hall.
Gibsonisafluffybutt, This place is like an oasis from the utter shittiness of other social media
Thornburywitch, Of course. We are the champions, my friend.
MeanElevator, I am personally responsible for at least 37% of the goodness here.
Others may disagree
Catfish, For. @Seagoon_ very much WIP but it’s getting there
Gibsonisafluffybutt, That looks so cool!
CEOofmyhouse56, That’s really good. Are you appliquing all the pieces on or a different method? Sorry I can’t see very well at the moment because I’ve been crocheting this afternoon and my eyes are fucked now.
Catfish, Yeah it’s all appliqué in place. Hence the bottom side bits being a mega mega butt pain.
CEOofmyhouse56, I’ve kept my daughter’s old flannelette pjs which I intend to make into a quilt some day. You’ve inspired me to start on it. Thanks.
Catfish, That sounds super cute.
CEOofmyhouse56, I’m gonna bawl my eyes out when I cut them up but I know my mum would love a quilt made of them.
danwritesbooks, My friend in the US got to meet my idol and got this for me.
My friend is absolutely amazing.
Seagoon_, Send one of your own books as a thank you. 🤗
danwritesbooks, She’s the first one to buy them, lol.
PeelerSheila, The kids have messaged me, “Mum there’s a cockroach in Nan’s!” What are your tried and true cockroach problem solvers?
useless_modern_god, Chemical Warfare
TinyBreak, I’m SO sick of this Taylor Swift talk. Nothing against her, I like some of her stuff. But this “will she become president” and “OMG she’s landed in Melbourne” is just so tedious. You know who else is here? The Blink 182 boys! But there’s no need to bang on about it. Do people really not have anything else to talk about?
I’m more interested in hearing peoples thoughts on a their last coffee than I am their thoughts on a celebrity.
bacon, Monkey’s paw granted. Taylor Swift will now talk about Melbourne’s coffee.
TinyBreak, Taylor Swift will now talk about Melbourne’s coffee.
If she gets some places to lift their game I’m all for it.
Thats gotta be the worst thing about touring. Do you send an advanced scout to check out good coffee places for you? Or do you just take a punt each time you go to a new city.
Nath, From my experiences finding coffee in the USA, she’ll love Melbourne. Honestly, the calibre of the coffee there is appalling.
Pilk, And nobody has mentioned the humidity in days??
Nath, We’re all about the heat in Perth. I think yesterday was our 5th >40° degree day for February. Sunday is forecast to be our 6th.
No humidity to speak of, at least.
calhoon2005, What’s the difference between the hype of U2 OR Madonna touring back in the day, or even the Beatles or the Stones. Just a modern take.
MeanElevator, It comes to taste probably. The artists you listed were quite unique and groundbreaking for their time. TS is a run of the mill pop singer that’s not really different in a sea of other pop stars.
TinyBreak, theres nothing wrong with pop per say. i mean I certainly dont understand todays pop, but if you go fish out my ipod that hasnt been updated in 10 years I’m prepared to bet it has tons of 90’s-00’s pop. It just feels a lot like you know how little kids can ONLY talk about the thing they love and are so excited about? That, but with teenagers/20 somethings it becomes a bit more tedious. I’m not hear to shame other peoples interests, theres a special place in hell for folks who do that. But I also don’t run around pretending I’m captain of the enterprise or telling everyone how Dune Pt1 was a cinematic masterpiece either.
calhoon2005, also don’t run around pretending I’m captain of the enterprise or telling everyone how Dune Pt1 was a cinematic masterpiece either. …
Bahahaha. Snorted out my beer at that.
TinyBreak, Yeah I might outed my whole personality on that one.
MeanElevator, When WrestleMania came to Toronto in the early 90s and the main event was Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate warrior, it was front page news in all the papers.
The hype leading up to it lasted months. Even people that didn’t care for wrestling knew of it.
This swift thing feels the same.
Bottom_racer, Went to a gig last night and it seems that young pomms are back in droves (you can tell by the accents and number of fades). Was packed. Normally the place is empty on a thurs.
Extremely popular music in the UK (drum and bass) but the scene here has sort of been struggling after the rona (for the smaller gigs). Hopefully it gives promoters a bit more confidence throwing smaller cheaper gigs and difference is made up with drink sales.
Also $15 a pint is ouch.
Gibsonisafluffybutt, Where can I find more info about dnb gigs in Melbourne? I honestly have no idea.
Bottom_racer, For me it’s normally on fb.
There’s one at section 8 on Sunday :)
Baku, https://aussie.zone/pictrs/image/baee3c40-aadc-46c7-9ce3-8c6075b2ea6e.png
This makes me happy
DolphinLundgrin, Where did you see this? I love it!
Baku, Julian O’Shea’s M is for Melbourne at the comedy fest thing
