AllonzeeLV, And there are people that make more money in a year than you’ll make in your life, whose “job” it is to decide to raise that seam a half inch up from last year for fashion, to acolades and red carpet galas praising their unparalleled genius for doing it.
Then the ones that actually make the jeans that people actually wear make less in their lives than we make in a year.
Humans are soooo weird, cruel, and cruel in genuinely weird ways.
Chadus_Maximus, They didn’t “decide it”. If you get fat as many nowadays do, you’ll just spill over your jeans. The only way to avoid that is by raising them up high. This is one disingenuous picture because of that.
I’d we were suddenly as soon as we were in 2011, we would wear the clothes the way we did in 2011 .
MadBob, I’d we were suddenly as soon as we were
Pardon me?
Tar_alcaran, Has Anyone Really Been Far Even as Decided to Use Even Go Want to do Look More Like?
Draces, Hold my beer I’m gonna give this one a shot…
If we were suddenly as skinny as we were
Maybe?
HeroHiro, Not only is this not true, but like others in the thread have said, the current jeans fashion is actually a callback to the 1980s.
paNic, Yeah, it’s been here a while and is already moving on to the 90’s, I’m seeing huge wide jeans out there. As a slim jeans wearer who doesn’t care much for fashion I am stocking up now because they are going to be like gold dust soon, I’m not making that mistake a second time.
Flyberius, 2031 looks great
DLSchichtl, I miss low-rise jeans…
activestatue, Said no woman ever
DLSchichtl, I’m sure there are plenty that would love to see a guy with nice Adonis belt in some low rise jeans.
BartsBigBugBag, The problem with that is you can’t rely on the old trusty tuck into the belt, because well, the belt is a lot lower…
DLSchichtl, Aww, he just wants a look!
Rockyrikoko, It’s more like a periscope
Bene7rddso, There would be fat guys with plumber’s crack too
Elivey, Well you’re in luck because this meme is completely wrong. Low rise jeans are in style and have been starting to go on trend for a couple years, they’re everywhere now.
It should be:
Late 90’s to 2000’s low rise jeans
2010’s high waisted jeans
2020’s low rise jeans
2030’s Best Jeanist?
Whoever made this is a full decade out of touch with fashion.
Kalkaline, I miss the whale tails
DLSchichtl, So much crack in the streets!
FlexibleToast, It was pretty great going to high school when the interesting fashion trends were low rise jeans and thongs. I mean, the rest of high school was awful, but at least there were whale tails.
jackie_jormp_jomp, I dunno man, I had a pretty baller time watching mst3k and having huge LAN parties every weekend.
dingus, A man of class. Keep circulating the tapes.
Thordros, Best Jeanist liked this post.
dingus, The Mean Jeans liked this post.
Chariotwheel, Boku no Hero Academia ahead of it's time
blazera, Hey thats the #3 pro hero show some respect
usualsuspect191, MHA origin story
Bade, Prolly a boomer made this meme.
Faresh, Isn’t the 2031 one a real thing already? I’m pretty sure I saw humans wearing something like that in the past.
Loulou, Everywhere in the seventies.
Finest_Johnson, These two were 30 years ahead of their time. From 2001: eonline.com/…/britney-spears-justin-timberlake-s-…
Awoo, Haha women amirite?
TheFogan, So 2 datapoints = the trend forever? I mean today I parked my car one space to the left of where I parked it yesterday. So I guess in a month it will be in the middle of the street.
FiskFisk33, the actual curve is a sine
sus,
Empricorn, Damn, there really is always an XKCD for everything!
Loulou, 2001??
1991???!!
pewgar_seemsimandroid, 430 bce?
Ddhuud, They haven’t been paying attention for long enough to make such a prediction.
The waist height vs time function is approachable to a sinusoidal function with a period of about 20 years.
PersnickityPenguin, Right. Who else remembers when bell bottoms came back what, 18 years ago?
akilou, This is the correct answer. It’s sinosoidal and the frequency has to stay low enough that the time between peaks and troughs will necessitate that people continuously buy jeans and can’t reuse the ones from the prior peak or trough.
obinice, I noticed 90s high top jeans are back in fashion lately, lots of 20 year olds walking around looking like my mum haha, but eventually they’ll lower again, and then go up, down, up, etc, it’s just a cycle is all.
IamSparticles, Yup. Lots of 90s fashion is in right now. My daughter is wearing flannel shirts. I told her I could have loaned her some of mine but I got rid of them all about 20 years ago.
taj, Yeah. Most of the flannel we have left is only good for working in the barn…
PerCarita, Nah, this is objectively incorrect. We all know 2021 was the start of paying more for less. 2021 fashion was crop top, crop jeans, crop everything, even our crisp packets had less crisps in it. Over it all, you wore a jacket that used to be your Dad’s blazer that he used to wear for work (the super boxy one).
hare_ware, The start?
PerCarita, Coming out of lockdown, remember?
_I_, ITT: 35+ year, out of shape, men.
ThatWeirdGuy1001, Ah yes you didn’t like the meme so it must be sexist which demands sexism in return! Sorry they don’t make jeans in your size 😔
_I_, I’m not female. You’re still an old fat guy, discussing girl pants with a bunch of other old fat guys on the internet.
imPastaSyndrome, Ah yes you didn’t like the response so you must be shitty in return
Lazylazycat, I think their point is they’re out of touch. In 2023 kids are wearing baggy jeans again.
snaptastic, How is this a meme?
stebo02, how is it not?
snaptastic, It’s a comic.
stebo02, meme /miːm/ noun
an image, video, piece of text, etc., typically humorous in nature, that is copied and spread rapidly by internet users, often with slight variations.
This post is an image with text, humorous in nature and spread over the internet. Therefore it’s a meme.
Comics can be memes too, or would you like to argue that Loss is not a meme?
snaptastic, You missed out the part about it being copied. This is an original work as far as I can tell, it would become a meme if for example it was reposted in many places with different text.
Comics can of course be memes, but I don’t think this one is. What’s the Loss that you’re referring to?
stebo02, This is an original work as far as I can tell
What’s the Loss that you’re referring to?
Is this your first day on the internet? I’m sorry brother, if you don’t know Loss, you don’t have the right to dictate what is a meme and what is not.
snaptastic, I meant original as in unmodified. You linked to the same comic.
Yes this is my first day on the internet.
In the interest of actually having a good faith discussion, I agree with the definition given here, for example:
If you draw a picture and call it a meme but nobody else recognizes it or wants to replicate it, it’s not a meme.
It would be interesting to discuss if you disagree with this definition.
stebo02, There’s nothing to discuss, I don’t care how you want to define memes. We’re all just here to laugh at funny images and that’s it.
snaptastic, Ok but you kind of do care it seems… anyway, have a nice day.
stebo02, yea I was bothered by the fact that you were needlessly gatekeeping, if you don’t like the meme just downvote and move on, thx
snaptastic, if you don’t know Loss, you don’t have the right to dictate what is a meme and what is not
Who’s gatekeeping?
stebo02, you, by saying this is not a meme
I’m just gatekeeping you from gatekeeping
